What lovely shade of green would you choose?
Live in NE Ohio - have a small 10x11 guest bedroom with 1 window (100% north facing) - no overhang, landscape blocking, etc. Currently painted builder's cheap grade flat paint in SW agreeable gray.
Looking to brighten up the room so it's not as dull - I want to make it brighter, lighter/airy. Plan on using either BM Regal select eggshell or SW (emerald vs duration). (I don't want to repaint the same color). I've read with a north facing room, I should stick to warm undertones, LRV ~50-60%.
Will post pictures what it looks like now - however, all furniture and bedding will NOT be in this room. I've purchased all new furniture/bedding which I will also post. Current ceiling light fixture is flush mount with 2 bulbs (ceiling is 9 feet); Replacing with a semi-flush mount with 3 bulbs to increase lumens to ~2400 which should also help with the overall lighting.
Carpet is a greige, but definitely has beige in it.

NEW bedding: (color called aloe - a very pretty soft green, with a sheen to it)
BENCH:
Have gone back and forth regarding paint color - off white/cream seems too bland;
Tan/brown/taupe - seems like there would be too much brown in the room (bench, bed headboard, carpet).
Thought a nice, pretty (not camouflage, not grass green, not blue, not gray), soft true green would look nice.
Here are some contenders:
1. BM light pistachio (2034-60) - what we're leaning towards; not sure if this is too dark??
2. SW slow green 6456
3. SW fleeting green 6455 (too light)? the next shade up is kind green 6457 - way too dark.
4. BM jack and the beanstalk
Which one of these do you think would work best in our bedroom?Further, I know you can ask them to lighten/darken colors by a certain %age. Any specific colors worth asking to lighten or darken and by what %age?

Comments (7)Thank you all. I have each and every one you've mentioned. I was leaning towards the Fireglow, Iijima Sunago, yet LOVE the Sherwood Flame, Autumn Flame, and Seriyu. I love reds, but am getting into the shadings of the reds -> oranges. I also love the paperbarks, and have considered one of those peely birches. Thistle5, I know your division. This maple (which isn't near the house, so house color doesn't particularly matter) receives its shade in the afternoon from a HUGE, 80' fir of some kind. Supposedly, 30 years ago the previous owner stuck their Christmas tree right, smack-dab in the middle of the yard so it blocks everything. All my front/roadside gardens, and from side to side. However, it's absolutely perfect. Healthy, and a million things life in it. From the stray cats, to birds, to snakes, you name it. The darned thing is to amazing to consider removing. I did the first year, try to find a government office or someone to use it as a Christmas tree. Evidently you have to know someone for that, but even then? The guilt would have been far too much. Plus, since the stupid owner raped the 6 acres I have of hardwoods (for money), this is one of the few mature trees on the property. I've planted 55 in 5 years, not including my JM collection, but they're small. Anyway, thanks all for the thoughts. I have some time to work with this, needless to say. Plus, rabbits bit a TON of my collection down to just above their grafts, so I have to wait and see what's going on with them in the spring. That, too, was heartbreaking. Comments (16)Either B or C...we're not the cheapest house in the neighborhood but there are some that are significantly larger/more extravagant/ pricier than ours. The neighborhood began development about 20 years ago. The original builder is completing the development. We actually chose the neighborhood before we decided to build. We chose it for the school system (best in the city), location (very close commute to work, shopping, highway, etc), and the overall feel. When we walked around while shopping for houses, other people stopped us to introduce themselves and tell us how much they liked their house, neighborhood, and the builder. We also ran into about 7 different acquaintances that all lived there! We looked at another development that is newer but the houses all backed up to each other so the backyards were not private. That was a deal breaker for us. We couldn't find a house in our price range to buy in our chosen neighborhood, so we bought the last lot and are currently builder. Comments (26)Beautiful home, but the shutters are not to scale. Remember that the shutters are supposed to be able to close over the window completely (if anyone were to do so, which we don't anymore). But that's the idea. So, your top, small window has shutters that would overlap. The larger widow has narrow shutters that wouldn't even come close to covering the widow. Comments (30)Becky - don't know if you remember my room and link from up-thread but I've continued to follow your situation and thought I'd give you an update on mine since we have similar large, private settings and goals for views. Much as I love roman shades whether fabric or some kind of woven wood/bamboo, I just didn't want to cover up that much glass with the stack height. We did a test run with a textured roller shade on 2 windows in our living room. That way if we hated them it wasn't an investment in every window and we'd keep looking. Here's what we have, a roller shade behind a cassette. You can see the texture, it's not room darkening but offers excellent light/glare control and privacy. When they're open, they are very unobtrusive and leave the glass bare. The cassettes aren't invisible but if you match your wood they will disappear as much as anything can. Mine are in between my wall and my wood color so they have a bit of warmth to them. We are probably going to use these throughout the house where we need light control. Some of those windows may get additional decoration with curtains, and that's an opportunity to add some pattern and color. Personally, I don't think these have a modern look or really any definitive style look because I chose a neutral to basically disappear. If you chose a wood tone or a color of course they will be a focal point and that to me is where the clean lined modern look comes in. But as a first layer with curtains or even on their own matched to your wood, IMO they can work with any home or decorating style. Hope that helps. 3 years agoIt’s almost impossible to give you an exact color for your room on a forum as colors on a screen can’t be trusted. Also there is no way to tell how any particular color will read in your space with your lighting variables. With that being said I like your new furniture and bedding ( which isn’t green) so you could go in several directions. A soft gray/ aqua, a blue/ green or a nice off white or cream. I would not paint my walls in eggshell; I would do them in a matte finish.

3 years agoI am not painting any walls matte - I have a 3 year old whose hands find themselves on walls 24 hours/day. I need something that can clean up easily.
There is no blue in this bedding - I have the bedding and have seen it with my own eyes. I prefer not to have much blue in the paint as possible.
The room is very dark overall - so I don't want gray. My walls are already flat greige and the room is gloomy. I don't like it.
I can explore off white/cream. Any specific suggestions?

3 years agoAnd this folks is why you should never pick a color on a forum! All your colors have blue in them. Here they are with my picks. Seems you have already found your picks so just order your samples. I didn’t pick a gray( just because a name says it doesn’t mean it is!)

3 years agoTo backtrack a moment, if I wasn't going to paint the walls green, what other (specific) colors would look appropriate in this room?
Yes, I always purchase paint samples, paint on white board and see what it looks like in the actual room.
For fun, I got some off white/cream samples - here is the actual nightstand with the actual bedspread, actual carpet, and actual headboard with various paint samples against the night stand.
Do any specific off white/creams work best? (please refer to them starting with #1 on the furthest left, ending with #9 on furthest right).
Would an off white/cream wall paint color be too "boring" or not work for this room? I've never painted any of my walls this color so just not sure how to proceed.

3 years agoYour bed and bench are more brown, the side chest appears to be a warm cream. The carpet is warm taupe. The bedding is a cool aqua. The colors you are wanting on the walls to brighten up the space may have worked better with a white and aqua color scheme. You need to try and tie these together. Proper lighting and the lighter furnishings will lighten the space. Find a color that works with the things you have regardless of how you think it lightens the space. Though DREAMY CREAM colors can appear dingy on their own -- combine with crisp white bedding / walls; warm-toned blanket; antique-white nightstand -- to create a balance of contemporary crispness and traditional charm."cottage -
