Part II of my LR - a new table & lamp choices
Comments (32)yayagal - you will have to let me know how you like the lamp. I am still considering it, altho, I think I'd prefer a ceramic lamp. This search has been very frustrating and way too time consuming. I was in Target today to pick up a few things and took a quick look at lamps. I came home with what I think is a good size and shape, but I am not crazy about the color. It is a mustard color, despite what it looks like in the pictures I am attaching. Any thoughts on this lamp? BTW, neither of the shades I used in the pictures are exactly right. Both are shades from other lamps here at home. with flash -- the color is showing a little brighter than IRL, but it is a mustard color without the flash -- if the color IRL was more like this, I could live with it, but it's not My favorite is still the 4th one I posted yesterday at 19:06, but it's been years since I found it on line and still can't find it anywhere....See Moreupdate - (pic's) new lamp, new shade, drapes in progress....
Comments (47)Long day! I returned all the trial drapes and went to Linen and Things, Sears, JCPenney's, RH AND Pottery Barn!!! The first 4 stores - really carry mostly silky, shiny drapes - but I did see the ones lyban suggested - and I like them a lot. They are much darker than the cream, but I ordered them anyway - just to try. I really loved the leaf ones that Les suggested (from Penney's) but they don't carry them in any lengths longer then 95". I might as well get it right at this point! Looked at Pottery barn & Restoration hardware... Pottery barn is a LOT less expensive - but RH were nicer in feel and color, so I ordered them as well! I still have other fabric swatches coming in, including the other one Les suggested... THIS IS A LOT OF WORK!!! LOL DH doesn't like the cream... likes the darker gold better, but now that I have been staring and staring at it... here are my thoughts. The darker gold just wasn't doing it for me - guess that's why I painted over it in the first place! I Did/do still like the terra-cotta, but now that the cream is there, it is more an "airy", "lighter" feel, plus the accessories do look better. It's a keeper for me - and I'll be posting new pictures tomorrow. Found another console table lamp... it's different, and I paused for a long while before putting it in my shopping cart. I should have paused a bit longer and left it at the store - it's ugly and one of those "What was I thinking?". It's already back in the car to return. :( johnatemp, what a great idea - that could really add a lot... now just need the panels! annz, I moved and added a few things around. Still need to find some larger items.... which I was "I dream of Jeanie" and could nod my head a bit and have it done!! Oh well......See MoreNeed new lamps to go with my new iron topper
Comments (12)When I first bought those lamps I thought it would look good to follow the shape of the posts and didnt look too bad without anything above the bed, but now with the iron topper, I agree they need to be a different shape and more weighty. lovesummer, sorry I missed your question about where I got the topper. I found it at HomeSense. Oopsie. I like your first lamp you posted, the idea of the black base never occurred to me, and yes the shade needs to be more of a creamy or gold color. Thanks for the idea. You need to join a photo site like photobucket, download your pictures there and then copy the HTML code into your message area not into the links portion. Would love to see some photos of your house....See MoreI bought the picture from C&B, now need a lamp and maybe new console
Comments (16)I read repeatedly (from blogs, decorators, magazines, etc.) that every room needs something black. I've seen it said that black grounds the room. Whatever. I would have to see the rest of the room before saying yes/no to black. Our rooms have light colored upholstered pieces and med. wood floors. I use aqua/green/blue accents. A black piece just never looks right (to me) in our rooms. In the great room, we have a dark brown leather chair. I have a dark vintage leather case (kind of like a suitcase) on top of a cabinet in the room, a floor-lamp and a table lamp with dark bases. So you get my drift, adding in some dark pieces for contrast, but doesn't have to be black. That's what works for our house, at least. I would wait and decide on a new sofa before painting any of your present pieces. The only thing I see about your present console is it looks a tad country to me and perhaps the rest of the room isn't? By seeing just that wall I can envision a console that is a bit sleeker, yes, maybe darker in color. But I'm not sure as I don't know what the furniture in the room looks like. Great painting!! Buying one thing almost always leads to future purchases!!...See Morelynartist
