Flooring dining room Design Dilemma

White/off white dining room rug?

Hi! Recently renovated dining room with Hale navy on top & white trimwork on bottom of walls. Went with a traditional dining room table & chairs from Ethan Allen. The designer was very helpful. But ordered very light colored chairs & a very elegant white/off white rug. Looks great but now wondering how many glasses of wine or dishes of pasta will be spilled?!? It’s a stain master carpet & upholstery is stain resistant, etc.... My children are grown but still teenagers, and we will probably only host a few dinners per year in this room. Hoping I didn’t make the wrong choice with colors. It seems nice to look at. But wanted to know your thoughts, tips fir staying clean, etc..... attached are photos of the space and rendering. The carpet pictured is not the one we ordered. It is much lighter.

IMO you should have done the dark color on the bottom now it makes the walls seem top heavy and also the contrast with a light rug would have worked better . Now please remove those blinds for sure and just use drpes , nice and full and in maybe a faux silk in such a formal room. A rug like this might work with drapes to match the walls

A very white rug is going to show dirt and food specks all day long. An off-white or taupe rung will do better in a dining room - the darker, the better IMO. Good luck!

The lower price makes it likely to be polypropylene. Was it the only one like it in the store? Seems odd to not have a label on the back. Could you go back to the store, see if there is a similar one and check to see if it has a label? Is there a manufacturer's label on it, or NO label at all? White will probably not look good in a room that doesn’t get a lot of natural light. It will look sickly and shadowy without a lot of sunlight. Lightest I would go is SW Creamy. It’s creamy, but not yellow. If you want more of a yellow (which would probably brighten the room a little), BM Linen White may look nice. You may have to actually paint a wall to see how it’s going to look in there. Even then the remaining walls are going to reflect in the white, because white reflects what’s around it.

I would continue with the same trim/door color. My suggestion for walls with white cabinets, would be to paint them the same off white as the trim. Not the best example, but close... Add a runner that works with white/off-white theme in the room.

Thank you, but to be clear, it's not an option to repaint the trim and moulding a different color, because it's the same throughout the house and we're only repainting one room. We're the ones who painted it 17 years ago, and we still have the same color, which is off-white. We'll repaint the trim with the original color so it looks new, but my husband is vehemently against repainting the trim in a different color, so that's not an option. Not worth getting a divorce over, ha ha! So, back to the question, if the moulding is off-white, (cream, even) will the ceiling look weird if it's white? Is it better to have the moulding and the ceiling the same color (off-white)?

Well— i think the white rug is ordered. It’s a subtle patterned rug of white on white. Very elegant but yes, I was leery. We do have a patterned rug in the adjacent foyer.

Such a beautiful room, and I have to side with your designer. Get the white and don't worry about it. Accidents are part of life, and in retrospect, can be handled. You want to smile overtime you look at that room, and a white on white carpet will be just what you want.

Vectra the rug and do not worry about it. I was visiting a friend in Philadelphia and she dropped a very large glass of red wine it went on wall rug and couch. We had put vectra on earlier and blotted it up it cam out. But we caught it immediately
