Laminate is next too impossible to match after a couple of years. Patterns are discontinued all the time. You might get lucky and find a box or two in someone's basement on Craigslist or at Habitat Restore, but I wouldn't plan my life around it.

Finding the needle in the haystack will be easier.

IF this is real laminate (a photograph of wood sitting on a fibre board) it isn't supposed to be in the kitchen. As in TOTAL VERBOTEN.

Think of this as a chance to do the right thing for the kitchen. I would look at finding a vinyl product in a stone or tile look. This can be quite easy. You can find vinyl click together floors in every shop that offers flooring.

Pick the one that works the best with your kitchen design and purchase it. Have it installed and there you go. You have done TWO things right:

1. You have removed the INAPPROPRIATE floor

2. Replaced it with the an APPROPRIATE floor for the kitchen.

There you go. Done. Like. Dinner.

@SK McCarthy - I agree, I guess laminate has been there forever. As a matter of fact instead of vinyl click on type I am thinking more like vynyl glue down type. I have done that in my bathroom. It is super easy more importantly way cheaper. What do you think?

The glue down will work so long as the subfloor material is NOT OSB. Most OSB (chip board) is made up with HUGE amounts of glue and resin (waxy substance) which causes issues with bonding (ie. things don't stick).

The other issue with glue down is it is traditionally very THIN. Look at how thick the laminate is. I'm going to guess it is 8mm - 12mm thick. And it probably has a little underpad underneath (2-4mm thick). All of that adds up to 'floor height'.

Now compare that with most glue down vinyl: 4mm - 6.5mm. You will have a small step DOWN onto the kitchen floor.

For that reason, I suggest a HIGHER priced click vinyl product that is 8.5mm or so (CoreTec gets into this thickness very easily).

Remember: 'cheap' can end up being far more expensive then you ever thought possible. Many times it works out BETTER to go with the MORE EXPENSIVE product that is THICKER. It makes things MUCH EASIER and FASTER.

In the building industry, the less TIME it takes to get things done the CHEAPER it works out to be. Imagine if you have:

1. OSB subfloor and;

2. A 12mm (1/2") floor height variation

Now you have to ADD subfloor (3/8" plywood) so that you can GLUE the vinyl down AND to get it raised up enough to deal with the height difference. Whew. Now you are adding $2/sf onto the cost of your 'cheap' vinyl.

Compare that with the cost of a high-end floating vinyl that is 8.5mm thick. It is roughly $2/sf MORE than the cheap glue down vinyl. Hmmmmmm. Sounds like it works out FASTER to use the more expensive product.

Remember: "Cost" is all about the TOTAL cost of the job....not just the purchase price of the product.
