I thought that was a creative use of those bowls, too. I like the way yours turned out. You did a nice job of picking a harmonious selection of plants.

@blfenton i don’t think you need any particular light source. I have them in East and Northwest and they are all doing great. Make a small one and see what happens... I bet it will be fine ❤️🙏

@hcbm where did you get the pebbles? I want to make more with the variety you show. I haven’t looked at Lowe’s. My plants came from a local Mom and Pop produce market.

Michaels sells pebbles but our local small garden shop sells things for fairy gardens and they also sell the pebbles.

I bought the pebbles at the local 99 cent store. The plants were from Lowes as there is no other choice near me for plants, except a Florist. The choice of succulents were very limited, I just got lucky with what was left.

I haven't had a lot of success with succulents in the past. I think I either over watered or under watered. I have a very small plant scape I made in an old glass candle jar that I haven't killed in over a year. Though unfortunately, it was losing a lot of it's leaves at first. I think I was under watering. I finally figured out less water, but more often. My relatives are really great with plants so these should survive. I will make more, as it was so much fun and very satisfying.

In Sept., one of my students kept bringing me chicks from the hen and chick plant in the school garden. I just tossed them into a clear glass bowl. I kept meaning to repatriate them, but things got crazy here and I had to move classrooms and left them behind. I just went back to check on something else and saw them thriving there - no soil, no water and on a very cold northeast facing window sill. That's the kind of plant I can get behind.

Not too long ago I stayed in an AirBnb that had the most beautiful succulent pots. Since the owners live out of state, I assumed they had a professional company managing the grounds and probably switching out these pots once in a while - because they were so gorgeous. But the owner told me they planted them on a visit to their home and they just kind of maintain themselves. I can't wait to try succulents next spring/summer. I've never potted them and I just loved these:

Olychick, now I have to make large potted ones for the front of my condos entrances next spring. Those are beautiful. Everything I plant in pots burns up, but those probably will be fine with water every other day. I am having a love affair with succulents.
