First house had a kitchen with natural maple cabs. No stain. Looked great after 30 years, though they did yellow some..which is the nature of maple. Present house has bathrooms with stained maple cabs. While they’re not horrible, I did learn the hard way that maple can be very splotchy when stained.

If I keep all the wainscoting white (It is all through my dining room too and is the same color) should I keep the paneling in the living room white too? Right now I have the paneling painted Shoji White and it certainly is fine. Sometimes, I just want the continuity of the paneling being the same color as the rest of the wainscoting, but my house has a lot of earthy tones and not a lot of light. I feel like white (even a warm white) isn't the best color for the room, but since it is paneling maybe I could get away with it? I've tried Swiss Coffee and have looked at SW Ivory Lace thinking it would match close enough to look right, but not be too stark. Any words of wisdom on this one?

My trim and ceilings are SW Pure white. I have stained wood lowers and SW Pure white uppers. My walls are a very light gray though so that gives a bit more depth (Drift of Mist). In your case I would probably use SW alabaster on the cabinets as well unless you want the cabinets to look WHITE and the walls and trim to look creamy/slightly yellow. Personally I don't think I'd like the contrast.

Ask FIRST before major investments in any partial refresh of anything. : ) but especially kitchens and baths.
