Building a Craftsan Style Home--List of Interior Features?
Comments (14)Renovator8: That's a truly gorgeous kitchen. I'm curious if you could give me an approximation for per sq footage costs on building an authentic but not greene and greene style craftsman. I just want to know if we can afford enough house to make it worth it. I don't need a huge house but I would like 2500 sq ft at least with a finished basement. The house I'm currently in love with since it would work in a city or a country lot is 3900 Sq Ft plus a 600 sq ft bonus room. I'm pretty sure I can't afford to build it but...I would like to know. I would do slightly different trim and lighting but I do like it... http://www.melaragno.com/MelaragnoResidence.htm...See Moreshould kitchen cabinet door style match interior doors?
Comments (4)Its absolutely fine to go with a different door style. A real colonial/early american 19th c. house often has different doorstyles throughout anyway, ranked on whether the room was "public" or "private", first floor or upper floors, or even by importance in the same room....See MoreInterior door style for Craftsman style home
Comments (15)Beautiful doors--thanks for posting them! As I recall, the U.S. arts and crafts movement often preferred and used walnut because it was an "American" tree and wood, as opposed to oak which was commonly used in the craftsman movement in Britain. Regardless of historical usage, walnut is not a species one would want to pay for and then paint. For painting, one would seek a much cheaper wood and one with a closed grain, not an open grain. Staining and accentuating the beauty of the Walnut wood grain and color would be the preferred finish. Drop dead gorgeous doors in the right setting......See MoreChoosing an interior trim/moulding style to match 6-panel doors.
Comments (1)I think it depends a little on what the panels on the doors look like. They could be shaker style, traditional, modern, or something else I haven't listed. They could be very rustic/cabiny! The style of the panels would guide my decision. If they're shaker style, I would look for some shaker trim designs. If they are traditional, with several grooves in the panels, I would consider something more elaborate. I hope that helps!...See MoreStax
