30 inch cooktop over 30 inch wall oven

Hi,

We have a kitchen with 36 inch cabinet . We are planning to replace appliances , and my concern is whether we can put 30 inch oven under 30inch cook top.

If this is possible , will the oven be too close to the ground and hard to open the oven door?

Frigidaire - FGEW3066UF (Wall oven) - Cut-Out Height 27-1/4" - 28-1/4"

Frigidaire - FGIC3066TB (Cook top) - Height 3-5/8"

Think my setup is similar with 36”...the two appliances must be compatible with each other because it does get tight between the bottom of the cooktop and the top of the oven. And yes my oven is pretty low, but I’m short so it doesn’t bother me. Apolgies for messy photo.

Buy a range. Far cheaper, and more usable.

The main differences in the cooktops (besides price) are (1) Wolf has a control layout that I prefer--I like the touchpad on the side, (2) texture vs. slick top, and (3) timers on the Miele actually turn off burners, but not on the Wolf. I only know that from excessive shopping, not actual use. And I know less about ovens, but I wouldn't feel compelled to get matching brands unless the separate units were both what you wanted. Half off sounds nice...But it's OK to go half Wolf and half Miele unless they look really bad together.

I have a 36" cooktop over a 27" oven. The oven isn't actually in a cabinet proper: it sits on the plywood base built by my GC for all the cabinets, and then he created a face panel, with the appropriate size hole for the oven, and had it sprayed to match my cabinets. There's a fair bit of panel on either side of the oven, but I really don't mind: I didn't want those spice pull-outs, and wondered about making a couple of 3" tray slots, but realised the space needed internally for the hinges would make it pretty awkward to use, and I decided that offsetting the oven and getting 6" for a cabinet would look strange (in MY kitchen - that's a personal thing). So, I'm happy with my panels. I got my tray cabinet in another place in the end. I think you have to decide for yourself whether you want/need symmetry on that wall, or whether you can live without using that space for anything. In my case, it also means any subsequent owner can opt for a larger oven if they want to.

I can answer the BS oven door question. My 36" BS RCS was installed two days ago (haven't used it yet, hopefully this weekend). During the burn off of the oven (high temp is 450 F for an hour) I checked how hot the oven door got, as that has been a big issue noted on these boards. On my range, the SS part of the oven door did not get hot, just a bit warm. The glass on the oven door got hotter but not that hot. What did get quite hot were the sides/edges of the oven door. I could touch the side but not for long. Definitely quite hot. Not instant burn/scald though. There are vents (or look like vents) right there so it makes sense that those areas heat up a lot. Your kids would have to press their hands up against the 2" side of the door for several seconds for it to affect them negatively. More likely a kid running around will touch the front of the door and that is not a problem, on my range at least.

I'm not fond of a triple stack in a single cabinet. It puts the bottom appliance at an unusable height, so it never gets used. I'm also not fond of the gutting that it takes to fit a 30'' oven into a framed 30'' cabinet. Most of the time, enough of the face frame has to be cut away that it requires reinforcing the sidewalls. I have one installer that completely refuses to do this withou a significantt extra fee, as it requires time basically rebuilding the cabinet. Each element has to have it's own platform, it's own dedicated electrical supply, (which many people forget about) and a cabinet rail between them. Even if the allowed clearances make it look as though there is no rail between the appliances, it's there, as that is how they are fastened into the cabinets. Can it be done? Yes, but not easily or cheaply. You need both an electrician to run all the new wires, and a cabinet maker to do the cabinet alterations. No handyman. No appliance installer. Someone who can take apart a cabinet, take apart a door a recut it to be shorter and put it back together, and stain some wood to match perfectly. Find the most experienced cabinet shop in town with a cranky old man working for them, and that's your craftsman.

We considered it, but our KD showed us one installed and we immediately nixed the idea. The handle of the oven door barely clears the floor...you can see it in the image above. If you're very short (and everyone else in your family is as well), then it might be OK for you, but I would not want it!

Is there anyway that you can put the oven in a wall and have drawers under cooktop ?
That is how I did mine and it works much better than before,

I'll add that if I had it to do over again, I'd go for a range. But when we went down this path 17 years ago, it was more cost effective for us to do it that way to get a gas cooktop and an electric oven.

My brain is not functioning well; I'm just now recalling our "why" . The reason I'd go for a range if I had it to do over again -- my original oven died. Well, the cooktop and oven must match and be designed to be installed one on top of the other (not all are)...and so that limits choices. Additionally, we then had the issue of finding a cooktop that would fit through the existing hole in the quartz countertop -- not an easy feat. We finally found one that was close and I purchased a special drill bit and gouged the sides to accommodate a screw that was sticking out, and we got the new cooktop in by the skin of our teeth. I'm assuming if we had a range that was 30" or 36" its a much easier issue of pulling the old one out, and sliding the new one in. Good luck with your sitatuion.
