Thanks for all the interesting feedback! I don't actually care at all about trends or "dated", I just like certain looks and don't like others. The current look of my 1980s bathrooms, I don't like it. It is very low quality workmanship and shoddy construction, cheap materials. I love very old things and traditional furniture etc, but they tend to be expensive because they are well made out of real wood. Do I have a style of decorating? I don't even know, I know what I like in other people's pictures and I am learning that means that I don't like "modern" design - I find it cold and unwelcoming - and I am not fond of country - too fussy and extreme in the other direction. I like rustic, transitional, cottage, and traditional styles. I am certainly not a trend follower, I have dressed in the same blue jeans and men's-cut T-shirts most of my life, and had the same all-one-length haircut, things that I think look decent on me. That's pretty much how I am with decorating - it needs to be functional first, and to feel right to me, second. Thanks for the compliment on the master bedroom color it is BM Wedgewood gray, I adore it. I just picked it a bit randomly from the chips so I am lucky I like it so much. When we closed on the home we were still selling our condo, and there were renters in the TH - we had to buy them out of their lease and in the next 2 weeks we sold the condo and lived in a temporary apartment... once the tenants moved out, I had 10 days to get the place move in ready before our 1 month temp lease was up, so I didn't have a lot of time to choose colors because I had to remove all the carpet tack strips and underpads, prep the floors, paint everything including ceilings (except the bathrooms which had been freshly painted by the PO and I left alone as functional) and lay the vinyl plank. Here is the "before" - this is the "style" I have to work with! This carpet was only 8 months old according to the PO, installed before it was rented out. and.. the master bedroom (doesn't it look tiny? I was not sure our king bed would fit based on my memory and the photos!) I was looking for a calm, spa-like color for the bedroom and was unsure based on all the chips (I was getting color overload)... but when I put it on the walls I was so happy with it! Sometimes I just lay on the bed and look at the walls, because I found the color so soothing. I do want to paint the bathroom a color that flows from this - I think the revere pewter chip looks great with the Wedgewood... but I am waiting to see if I keep the current floor and what I do with the vanity. The current floor has purple pink undertones and looks good with RP and family but nothing too blue. Pal, I don't think the current vanity is not really worth trying to work with - everything looks better in the photo than in real life, but there is some significant water damage to the interior and the false front drawer thing has swelling/bubbles in the MDF panel from water, the drawer slides are all broken so the drawers sit crooked and don't slide well, and it would be very difficult to configure this vanity for 2 sinks. It really was a very low quality item to begin with and by the time I replace all the parts and the damaged wood, it would be a lot of work and money into a poor quality item. I am considering giving up on the 2 sinks thing and instead replacing the door/drawer fronts on the existing cabinet, repairing the bottoms with damage, and removing the "makeup station" portion, then putting on a 70" top that stops after the drawer stack -leaving room between the vanity and wall for a linen cabinet, stool or something. However that's not what I really want... I priced out 2 single vanities and 2 tops, it works out to about the same as one double vanity... and would be much more difficult to do the plumbing (remember I am 100% DIY) since I have to use a split on the existing plumbing to 2 sinks, if it's contained within one cabinet it's much easier (and even easier with a simple cabinet built for the purpose). I have considered skim coating the cultured marble with concrete, but I am not sure how well it will adhere, and I still have to replace the rusty sinks which don't properly fit the countertops - and I haven't been able to find ones that fit the cutout shape and size. I'm not sure I like the idea of concrete in my bathroom for some reason... happy with it in the kitchen but it seems too hard and cold for the bathroom. HD prices for a replacement "stone effects" vanity top for even the 70" portion, rather than the full 109", was $675... not cheap for the countertop alone. Prefab laminate fake granite would be about $150 and could be used with top mount or vessel sinks, but might not stand up to high moisture. The DIY option would cost about $200 total for the vanity including the wood top, and sinks. Though I am taking into consideration the possible cleaning issues. Faucets will be extra either way - about another $150 for 2 decent sets. Vessel sinks I thought would offer me the ability for a DIY countertop and cabinet, I would not have to make it as rustic as the one pictured, different finished could be used. I could also install doors to cover the open area. At least the open space underneath is large enough to vacuum under (a lot of vanities available now have the annoying 2-4" toekick space as a dust bunny trap!) Hi everybody! I have been waiting all summer for it to cool off. It seems that the heat makes my dizziness and nausea worse. I have lost about 15 lbs with being too sick to eat throughout the summer. I just this week got my helper here to help me clean the garage and then I moved the vanity out there and sanded it a bit in the easy places, and got it up on a table. I got the brass floor protectors pried off the bottom of the legs and was pleased to find no holes have been drilled in them. That means that I can drill holes for the feet I bought. I have adjustable feet that will give the vanity an extra 1/2" of height, and that can be screwed up to give another 1/2" if we want. That would make the legs appear to float way too high in the air, so I don't think it will work. the extra 1/2" will have to suffice, with the ability to make the vanity level so that the sink will drain properly. I have also decided that the bail-type handles that came with it are not going to work for us. I can't see us fumbling around trying to grab the bail that has recessed back into the grooves of the handle around it, standing there with water or soap in our eyes. A knob is much easier to use. I had Hubby try using the bail and he vetoed it on the first try and said, "replace 'em!" I am using these on doors of a set of shallow cupboards that will be recessed into the closet of the the neighboring bedroom. I figured they were a sure bet for the six drawers, too. I am not going to use the center drawer anymore, what with all the plumbing going on above it, so I will just fill in those holes. I need to cut away the bottom of the drawer space, then move the drawer support piece to the left or right. It is at dead center right now, and the sink's drain will need to go there. I just have to sand down the fluted areas of the vanity table, then it will be ready to be primed and painted. I am still leaning toward painting it the violet Peace and Happiness. I have purchased more components for the plumbing. I have all of the shower controls and the rain shower head and regular shower head. Still need to get the hand-held and some safety hand-hold bars for the shower area. I still have not finalized a wall tile (looking at fake Cararra tile for the room's walls) or floor tile or the surface for the top of the vanity. We HAVE concluded, though, that we cannot get this job done until Toby, our ever-more-confused beagle/golden retriever mix, dies. He will be 16 at the end of this month. He has spinal arthritis and began vomiting every time he was given his Tramadol or his glucosamine/chondroitin pills, then quit taking them. He had to go on prednisone to control the pain. He is peeing a lot in the house, always on a rug or quilted mattress pad put down for him. The bathroom is his main place to pee. I will not have my new floor grout saturated with dog pee. I don't think the poor guy would cope well with the construction, either. He is now blind in one eye and somewhat deaf. It would be too confusing for him to do all that construction. So even though I can't get Jim over here to do the work, if I could, I would not be able to do it until Toby passes on. So, instead, we are getting new gutters and trim, and getting our four remaining windows replaced. We did the other three windows when we remodeled the kitchen and made the living room into the library/music room. I am in the process of cleaning and decluttering so the window guys can get in to measure!

I used the RH Lugarno Sconces and coordinating towel bar and robe hook in my upstairs guest bath (full renovation). I also used a RH medicine cabinet, but can't remember the name. I'm happy with the quality. I've been using the bath for five months while my master addition was being built. I bought a RH Odeon Vanity on sale, including the marble top and the sink, for my master bath. The difference in quality, compared to my custom kitchen cabinets is the operation of the drawers. The drawers in RH vanities don't have the Blum glides/soft-close like my kitchen drawers. I also bought RH Wilshire sconces, a "train" towel rack, a towel bar, a shower shelf--all in polished nickel. Very happy with the quality. I bought during sales that also included a 20% friends and family.

I have an update and would love to get some feedback before I order the final accessories. (Demo begins one week from today!) I got a quote for replacing the vanity with white cabinetry complete with a sitting area, plus hardwiring of sconces. The costs all added up to too much for me, so I'm sticking with my vanity and overhead lighting location. I feel great about my choices for tile, bath tub, paint, and fixtures. My worry is that all the little accessory details won't quite work together, diminishing the beauty of the bathroom as a whole. I need to buy the accessories soon; here's what I have in mind. With overhead lighting instead of sconces, I prefer one large mirror. The mirror is by Pottery Barn, a wooden frame with gold gilt, 72" x 36". Perfect size for the space, very very very hard to find. This is technically a floor-length mirror, so I hope it can be mounted horizontally! PB customer service was useless when asked. The lights are also PB, polished nickel. For practical reasons, I ruled out any overhead lights that take type B bulbs (too dim) and have fabric shades (too hard to clean). As a big plus, these are on sale for $170 each. Do they go with the mirror and the rest of the room? Chandelier is PB, 18" diameter, antique brass, UL-listed. This will be over the tub on a dimmer. It was hard to find a chandy that's not too big, ornate, and/or expensive. Knobs and pulls are glass and polished nickel from Restoration Hardware. Towel ring, TP roll, and hook are Ballard Design in polished nickel. Fabric for the roman shade is gray on cream linen. Shower bench is Signature Hardware in teak. I hope this will help tie in the wood of the vanity with the other side of the room. Towel warmer is polished stainless steel (no nickel option) from Signature Hardware. If anything doesn't quite mesh or looks wrong, I would love to hear, as well as any suggestions for alternatives!
