gaps between end kitchen cabinets and wall
Comments (7)I'll add that my cabinet maker asked me for a list of things that I had noticed that needed fixing or finishing before he returned for his final payment (which was also small). It's easy to miss those little things when you're putting in the big stuff, so I would assume that he's planning to fix all those gaps. I went over each wall of cabinets with a fine tooth comb and made a very detailed list. The list was pretty long, but most of the items on the list took him a minute or less to fix. Just to be sure, call or e-mail (I preferred e-mail so that we would both have it all in writing) with your list. A simple "I wanted to be sure you brought enough trim with you to finish these spots" should do it. If you feel like he needs some incentive to do it right, follow that by a "I'm having a friends over soon and I think there will be some potential business for you, so the sooner we can get this finish work done, the better." :)...See MoreHas anyone ever left a gap between kitchen cabinets to use for storage
Comments (24)Both Rev-a-shelf and Slide Out Shelves offer pullout fillers that will fit a 4" gap, so it doesn't have to be an open cubby if you don't want it to be. But do measure carefully to be sure that the gap really will be 4", which I think will make the actual available storage more like 3" (double check with the designer), and that the stepstool will also fit height-wise with the mechanism in place. I have seen open cubbies that are nicely finished on some kitchen reveals here, also, used for towels, sheet pans, even paper towel holders - the first and last with pullout hangers for them....See MoreGap Between Stainless Range Hood and Wood Cabinets or Not?
Comments (10)The Building Code reference was to the makeup air that may be required for your hood exhaust. A hood exhaust above 400 cfms (in some locales might be 300 cfms) could risk the exhaust pulling carbon monoxide through the house when it exhausts the air over your cooktop. That is why makeup air has become a Building Code requirement. The hood needs to be 6" wider than your cooktop, i.e. 42" wide. The "dissimilar materials" issue you mentioned is irrelevant. Millions of hoods everywhere that are next to wood or painted cabinets. As @Patricia Colwell mentioned, ixnay on the uneven cabinet heights. Make them all the same height. With your 10' ceiling, I'd go no shorter than 42" tall upper cabinets, instead of the 36" cabinets you show. The 42" cabinets will both add more storage space, and make the gap to your 10' ceiling not appear so yawning. Then choose the height for the cabinet over the refrigerator to match the height of the other cabinets. Is that fridge next to a wall? If so, make sure there is enough filler that the fridge door can open all the way....See MoreFilling gap between built-in table and wall
Comments (11)You are asking about a gap between the counter top and the wall? Your woodworker should have scribed the countertop to the wall eliminating the need for trim or caulk. I would suggest caulk and paint. Use a good caulk like Big Stretch....See Moreworthy
