Window treatments for a NON window treatment type girl
Comments (14)We are not window treatment people either, but have started to add some as we've reno'd/decorated a few of the rooms in our house; two bathrooms and our office. They really do help to finish off a room. That said, we're not covering our kitchen bow window, or the DR bow window, though I might consider something for the DR window at some point--just for the window panes themselves, not to cover the whole bow-unit. We used Hunter Douglas' Designer Screen Shades in the Roman Shade style (ours are mounted inside the frames becuase of our window style/frame depth). The shades are very clean-lined and range in sheerness. With the sheerer weaves/fabrics, you can see outside with them down and they allow a lot of light in....See MoreI need some window treatment help for this kitchen window
Comments (3)Vicki, I think a roman shade would look very nice! You could install it inside or you could hang it just below the crown molding on the cabinets. Depending on how much fabric you have and how much you want to spend, you could also make a mock roman shade that doesn't function. On this job I have mock roman shades inside the window in one area and then on the outside due to window depth limitations on another area....See MoreKitchen window treatment needed
Comments (10)Well, the windows have a thermal break (barrier) and are filled with Argon gas. I asked the company before we bought them if we could put a film on the kitchen window, and they said it would void the warranty which is a lifetime warranty including replacing glass. The heat is the main reason I will keep the window treatment closed. I don't care about the view since that is construction stuff under an RV carport that the contractor is using. I can't do anything about the view unless I bring in a backhoe and bulldozer to terrace the ground and remove all the trees all the way to the road. There is an 8 ft drop which is the dirt wall you see. Someday maybe. I have plenty of light. Those are two new can lights above the sink. I just don't want to block the light with a window treatment that sticks out. Cleaning up the view will in NO way stop direct sunlight coming in through a window. This is a secluded, country, lakehouse. Maybe I was not clear...but I thought I was. My only request is to have help with a window treatment....See MoreHelp! Window treatment for kitchen window?
Comments (13)By using off white blinds -- vinyl or faux wood to withstand the moisture of the kitchen -- the same as or similar to the color as your cabinets, the blinds will all but disappear visually, enabling the emphasis to be on the light entering the room there rather than the window treatment. Adding blinds or shades of any other color tends to emphasis the small size of the average kitchen window. If you are looking out your window at the window of your neighbor, you might consider adding a either a pair of posts w/lattice in between -- or three posts to create a free standing angle w/triangle planter as their weighted base. https://www.amazon.com/5-5-Foot-Outdoor-Triangle-Planter-Trellis/dp/B01CSCQ0TM/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_86_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MVP5MKNZ7CYXTHPX96AC Alternately, you might consider a rectangular treated wood planter box w/lattice: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/78461218487502661/?lp=true It helps if you can find a pair of 4' plastic rectangle shaped planters and then build your box around them with your lattice over the box and in between the planters rather than need to line the wood box w/thick plastic. Adding either treated wood feet or even wheels to your planter will make it more mobile. Depending upon your planting zone, something like English Ivy in your planters could soon provide year round privacy. English Ivy is invasive so you might not want to plant it directly into the soil of your yard....See MoreOlychick
