Hi, I am looking for some advice on what to do with our fireplace surround. We recently had the old orange granite and wooden mantle removed from around and over our fireplace. We envisioned replacing the wood burning fireplace with an electric one since we don’t see ourselves using the wood burning one and the insert/door look a bit dated. Looking for help on the following:

1. Ideas on what to do with the surround - should we do just a marble surround without any wood mantle surround? Maybe just put a mantle slab on top?

2. Any ideas whether changing from a wood burning to adding an electric insert will help us change the look from being dated to more modern?
