OK, it took me a while to get up the nerve to try color on the ceiling then to test samples. Hubbard Squash was too peachy. I didn't try turquoises/teals because those don't fit with the rest of my house or the rug that will go in the office (cream, rust, navy, and olive). That left sky blues. After several samples and time spent lying on the floor looking at sample boards propped on top of the bookcase, I ended up using SW Open Air. Here's a photo of the work in progress. The blue looks a little more violet in the photo than in person. I'll post another photo after the room is all together but I like the blue ceiling better than the off white. Thanks!

Let’s assume the blue ceiling is a keeper.... What would you suggest for a ceiling fan replacement? DH is adamant we must have a fan with light. No chandelier for me. Sigh. But he’s okay with an upgrade. Should I switch to white or just get a more updated version in ORB? Not sure I’m interested in introducing new metals. This is one of those times when I don’t know whether to minimize or emphasize. Is smaller an option since the bed is right under it? If you have specific recommendations, please share photos or links. I appreciate everyone’s feedback!

Try using Farrow & Ball paint in the color "Blackened". This is a pale ,pale blue (it looks almost white in the can) that will make your ceilings recede. It is a true neutral and goes with almost everything. Tip: Buy a small sample and paint in on posterboard. Once it dries tape it to the ceiling.

(The rug next to the bed is my aunties not indicative of my taste). So, what is your taste? What colour are your bed linens? What colour is your dream bedroom? Blue is the complementary colour to orange so usually blues will bring out orange tones in a space. The colour to avoid if you want to tone down the "orange" ceiling. Hard to suggest particular colours in your room from pics on a screen, especially when the space doesn't seem well lit (overcast day?). Imo, you'll have a much easier time deciding (or visualizing) wall colour once the walls are primed. Primer cleanses the visual palate, so to speak. :) From what I can see, your wood ceilings offer a super cozy feeling to the space. You can "lean into" that if it appeals. If the wood ceilings overwhelm you or truly limit your decor, whitewashing them could be an option. Leaving the beams natural could offer a striking contrast. (Wouldn't be my first choice but it's often done.) Personally, I'd go white walls to contrast with the wood. Something soft without strong undertones like BM Cloud White.
