Comments (6)Nancita: You are a girl after my own heart! I would love to see photos of your home. My mother's family is from central and south Florida...and they have been for generations so I'm very familiar with your home's style, etc. Also..I am a native of New Orleans. I lived there my entire life (49 years) unti last year when I moved to SA, Texas. I, too, love color....I guess it's due to the carribbean, french and spanish influences I grew up with in NOLA. The home I sold prior to moving to Texas was a 1930s raised Acadian cottage. My LR was a coral "shrimpy" color...the kitchen and hallway to the bedrooms and bathrooms were yellow...a really warm buttery (no green) yellow. One bedroom was parrot green...one was periwinkle...MBed and Bath were painted a watery aqua...and the 2nd full bath and 1/2 bath were "beach glass." I had the old black and white 1930s tiles in both bathrooms too, as well as subway tile. I kept the wood walls of the sunroom white but painted the old pine boards on the floor aqua..the same aqua of the water in the carribbean. The rest of the house had oak floors. Some of my furniture is dark...other pieces are old pine from Scotland..which due to age is a rich color - not light...but not dark either. I love a mix of the old with pops of new. We are so similar. Now to your question....I always used white bedding...towels, etc. in all rooms. I didn't want color or much pattern on the linens to compete with the color on the walls. Plus I had a lot of art in my house and there was color in it too...but more subtle color as most of it was vintage oils or watercolors. I didn't have curtains because they seemed too fussy for the house but I used wood slat blinds in the rooms that needed privacy. So...I vote for white...and you can use lots of textures...smooth, nubby, fluffy, linen, etc. If there is any way you could take photos I'd love to see them. I have a few photos of my home in NOLA that I'll add to this post. I wish I had better and more photos...but I don't. There is blue tape in one because I was painting and changing the glass in the door to reeded glass for privacy....the yellow of the kitchen wall looks faded in the flash...the bed isn't fully made up, but you get the drift. I have the real estate video on a CD but I can't capture stills from it....See MoreWhat color towels for hall/kid's bath?
Comments (4)I have to agree with meg - I bought beautiful towels to go with my aqua bathroom - a perfect match. After my DD left for college I washed and cleaned up the bathroom and noticed that ALL of the brand new towels now had a "lovely" tie dye look. Same with the nice expensive aqua sheets that were on her bed. Now when she comes home I put in white towels and white sheets - though you can't close the barn door after the horses get out. LOL Some face washes will do that to towels too. If you don't care about the towels then let them pick the colors!...See MoreWhat color bath towels do you like to use?
Comments (53)I mainly use cream towels in one and linen in the other. I also have navy and burgundy towels that I'll occasionally use in the one bathroom since they match, are nice, and were gifts. When DH and I married someone bought us a BUNCH of white towels and washcloths. I use those as the junky towels for hair color, etc. I don't bother to remove any stains on these. Also, I think white towels look too stark and out of place for in my bathrooms or I'd revisit that color choice. I've been using white washcloths in the kitchen this past year, but I must not be doing something right with bleach because I have to do a lot of soaking to get them white. Maybe I'll try the White Bright as an experiment....See MoreWhat color towels for this bathroom?
Comments (5)Any color but white, grey or tan (beige). Brighten up that monochromatic look. Have some fun here. Fun is better than classy! (I'm not sure I even know what "classy" is. So far "classy" looks like dull to me.) Lighten up - these are only towels. If you get tired of them, you can easily update your look by changing towels....See MoreCarrie B
