Kitchens Design Dilemma Remodeling

kitchen update/ countertop color

We are almost ready to purchase our new kitchen countertops and cabinets. How do you think this color of countertop will look?
We are keeping the current tile to avoid having to tear it out, and aside from the ground needed a good cleaning it is in good shape!! Although we would rather it be different.
The fridge will be built in, new micro-hood, and we will have a counter height bar/hangover with the counter, also doing subway tile backsplash.

Doing laminate counters with undermount sink. This isn't our forever home, so saving money and not purchasing stone!
Suggestions welcome, as picking the color of the countertops has been our biggest issue. Thank you!

I’m sorry, but it doesn’t look good with the floor. I’d do a more solid color if possible.

Nope, doesn't look good. Tones are clashing -- cool-toned counter against warm-toned floors. Get some samples in warmer tones and you'll be on the right track.

You need to do some homework. Every material has it's pros and cons, and it all comes down to what you are willing to live with. "Best" is completely subjective. Frankly, if my DH had not felt so strongly about our using a "higher end" counter top (we ended up with engineered quartz) I would have done a laminate. They are durable, warm, soft, and very inexpensive. Completely low-maintenance if you are not careless about using them. Our quartz will be fine, and looks fantastic, but we spent nearly three times what we could have spent on a high-end laminate. IKEA has some DIY laminate for incredibly little cost if you are willing to put in the effort and will buy you plenty of time to do some research on your countertop options. Heatheron40, very nice. I asked a question about doing a tile countertop in our guest cabin recently as I feel like the look would complement the cabin aesthetic. Also I’m dying to learn to tile and thought it would be a fun place to start as it’s not an everyday space and I could take my time. Most of the responses were against. Basically stating the grout would make me crazy. The guy at the said what you’re saying I think, he said that modern grouts are more resistant to staining and such, and also to go with a tinted grout of some sort. I love your use of pattern to give it interest and intention!

Thanks - and I was planning the white perimeter uppers and lowers with a darker quartz counter top ( i like the darker charcoal -matte finish- on top of the white cabinets)and the light gray island cabinet with marbled quartz top. I do love a dark gray cabinet but I have a small kitchen and worried it may be too dark. We are a family of 5 with three messy kids - although they are getting older and less messy lol. Ill have to look at the stained gray - i just dont like to see the grain of wood in cabinets. This island below has the pendants I will do (I'll do 2 smaller Hicks pendants). I like the look of this island and top and the white cabinets with dark quartz in lower pic what do you think?

Sorry TCB - just realized you are the OP :) - and just re read that you plan to change the hardware....are you doing this everywhere in the home? Will the ORB be on all door hardware throughout the home? I'd strongly suggest focusing on the tile (white with matching grout or subtlety darker grout like a bone white). Then do the hardware and select paint LAST. Thank you for the paint tone pictures with your floor - could you retake the shots with the paint samples propped vertically against the wall by the tile floor. Look at all samples as you will see them in real life because the light hits them different so anything vertical (like paint) should be evaluated vertically.

no. tile is beige w/dark brown grout, countertop is a whiter gray tone

what you could do is stain your grout a lighter color and see if it helps. Look at GroutRenew

Beth, thank you for the grout suggestion...it needs cleaned! We had it cleaned professionally and sealed a few years ago...but they didn't do a great job...and we need to have it done again. so they should be white.
So would you say if the grout was white the countertops would work?

Our floor is very similar to your floor. We also had to work around our floor as part of the remodel. I wanted white cabinets, so I made white, off white and black my three chosen colors. It may not be perfect, but I like it. The room is light and appears larger.

if the tile (cleaned) will be white with a lighter white/gray grout, then I think you first choice will work.

BTW, have you priced granite? just to see the price diff?

Don't know where you live, but pre-fabricated granite is also an option
