What kind of floor should I put in with this kitchen?
Comments (20)Ooh, I have still not found my digital camera linky thing - so cannot show you a pix, but - I ended up because of a similar floor matching issues with a mountain dark bluish gray slate tile that matches my blue pearl countertop and is a cool contrast to the mandarin cherry cabinetry (Omega).Though with soapstone, I would definitely look for something warmtoned -like slate. A friend talked me out of going with a yellow-toned wood floor - said I needed to stick with just the two basic color tones. Many days I miss my inclination to "lighten up" with the wood, other times I walk in and exclaim to myself how chic it looks, and, have to say I love the tile everytime there is water sloshing. Can hardly wait, though, until I can get in an island or back wall cabinetry to break it up a bit. Two points of concern about tiling with an older house: 1) if you have a large kitchen over a basement - you have to get a consult to see if there is enough support, not too much flex in the floor (see tiling forums and John Bridges), and you have to worry about level floors. Vwhippie - love your golden doggie AND your large tile pattern of matching color! Though - that's another thing to consult contractor about - is size of tiles with an older home. Smaller is easier for them to be flexible with in leveling....See MoreShould I get a cordless lamp instead?
Comments (18)Thanks for everyone’s comments. I should mention I am planning on installing a large chandelier in the room - just haven’t picked it yet. Also, eventually , I will probable put the two chairs yous see next to eachother facing the window and put two light colored x benches facingthe chairs. Perhaps at that point I will put this side table in between the chairs and get a larger side table next to rhe couch, but currently the scale doesn’t bother me....See MoreWhat kind of window treatments should I get for my living room?
Comments (18)Beverly, thank you for the sample renders! I lovveee the look of shutters, but I feel that for my dog I need the option to raise the shades up so he has access to look out the window. Also I think the shutters might limit some of the light coming into the space. Definitely will get a similarly sized rug as in your render, and Im also looking into large mirrors for the fireplace! I also like the light affixed to the wall which saves floor space. As for window treatments, I am now leaning towards the top down bottom up someone else suggested. I noticed there’s a day / night type— anyone recommend that? Is there a certain brand that’s better but doesn’t break the bank? Any brands or type that offer more privacy or without having to get blackout? Comments (4)The tiles look orangey in the picture (it doesn't enlarge so hard to tell). Do you have a tile you can take to the paint store? Not sure creamy white will be good with your white trim.
