Well, I did something yesterday that could be considered uh... "eccentric". I mean, what's wrong with postponing breakfast for an hour and a half to take pics of my 2nd instar BST cats??? It seems some people think that to be strange... Oh, well. Maybe through our good examples these [odd] people can be brought to see the light... p.s: I am quickly deciding that the phrase "like herding cats" should (and does) describe multiple situations. It's amazing how hard it is to get 5 BST cats on the first inch of a finger to photograph. After yesterday's experience, I decided to compose a song to the tune of "We Three Kings". It goes something like: We 5 caterpillars of doom/ We'll annoy you greatly/ When you try to take our picture we can move very fast/ chorus:/O-oh, we will move far away/ From where you want us to be/ We'll come and annoy you greatly/ We 5 cats of doom! -Jmcat

Love Bee's black ceiling and the painted bathroom floor. I've made some departures, for me, in going with a new chandelier for my dining room that has a lot more crystal than anything I ever thought I would like, and I love it. Then I put a large, contemporary crystal chandelier (a disc, basically) in the master bedroom. Love it. Painted the dining room blue when everyone else was going red. My appetite is ruled by what is on the plate, and if that doesn't stimulate an appetite, why eat it? Not one person has refused to eat because it wasn't painted red. But it is a calm environment, so maybe there is less digestive upset after? ;-) Probably my most different thing was selecting three cabinet finishes and door styles for my kitchen when two was not often done. I have two hardware finishes and styles, two faucet finishes, two counter tops -- and it doesn't look wild at all. We also reduced the doorways on one wall from three to two and used the space to put a hutch with fridge drawers and a counter for our espresso machine in the breakfast room. Normally, I would not close an exterior door, but we had one into the garage right next to one to the driveway and another to the driveway at the other end of the counter run. We think we corrected a builder blunder. My porch was painted blue, but it has faded and now that it is time to repaint, I'm going to go darker.

My kitchen remodel fits In the everyone thinks I'm nuts category. Virtually every item in the room is salvaged. The cabinets, granite and fridge came from a demolition sale, the dishwasher, sink and faucet were installed in the old kitchen by the previous owner, and the light fixtures are from ReStore. The kitchen floor was the most work and it is fabulous. We removed it from a century old house being torn down, pulled all the old nails, racked it, bundled it with shrink wrap and stored it for a few years (even before we had bought the house!). Then we installed this floor in my remodel so that every piece of visible wood is one continuous piece. The short pieces down the center are over 6 feet, there's a section just over 8 feet and 2 boards across the stairway landing are 12 feet long. It is a mix of rift sawn and quarter sawn oak. I don't have any photos yet which do justice to the floor but it is stunning.
