Palimpsest, thanks for the sconce idea! I already decided to nix the sconce idea, largely because the drywall went up before a friend mentioned sconces. I sort of regret it and can't believe I didn't think of it considering I've done some photography; side lighting is very attractive. catkin-- I think we're both on the same page as your decisions are very close to my current thoughts. Due to the backsplash area and where the fixture will be located, our mirror can be no more than 36" in height. I originally was leaning toward a mirror that equaled the width of the vanity, and a fixture that nearly equaled. I now think that will be overwhelming in the space. I think if I have a mirror between 30"-36" tall and 30-40" wide, with a fixture 24"-36" wide it'll look good. cangelmd--what about mirrors (including molding) that span the length of the vanities? It's a statement, for sure, but it might look really nice if the picture in the link is any indication of your style.

This is what worked for me, but I'm not sure it's what you're looking for. We only have one sink, so that made it easier. Based on your sketch, I would opt for a single sconce on the outside of each mirror and a double between them. We also have a pin light above the sink which adds some pop. We also have an overhead light and a light in the shower, and two in the tub -- so there's no lack of lighting in our bathroom.

I did a little thinking on this. Light socket to left of mirror- it is attached to a stud on the right side of the little electrical box. I am going to replace it with a 3 capacity box, putting the socket in the spot on far left, then patch/cover the other two. This will allow me to move the mirror down a few inches to be centered on vanity. I will still have room between it and framed the mirror. Lights- I will then be able to center the lights on the vanity/mirror, not on the sinks. But the original hollywood light had one wire in middle of fixture. To install two lights I will need to split that and run through the studs to get to new opening for new fixtures. I was not thrilled about patching drywall to do this. But...... if I remove the mirror ( which is not glued as originally thought) I can open up the wall behind the mirror, do the split, bore through studs, run new wires up to the new fixtures holes. Then I patch the wall which will be covered by the mirror so it doesn't have to be perfect!!!! It is a lot of work but will be worth it in the end. Can't wait to finish and post pics.

If this room will be used for makeup application, you want to make sure your lighting is optimized. (Natural light is best for makeup application but cloudy days and evenings require good lighting.) Overhead lighting as it appears in your elevation shot is the least flattering type of lighting because it casts shadows on the face. I've read that lighting should illuminate the whole face and this is best achieved by having mirror side lights. If your lighting stays as it is, the makeup wearer might appreciate a table top mirror with built-in lighting. Person's eyesight and habits are bound to dictate preference over a wall or tabletop mirror preference as well. Lighting placement then informs mirror choice. Frame or frameless mirror is a choice based on chosen bathroom style and owners' preference. (I hate cleaning the bathroom. As I'm planning our remodel, all my choices are dictated by cleaning ease. Love the look of ornate frames but they're a pain to clean so if I go with a framed mirror, the frame will be smooth and easy to dust.) As for the sink outlets, think about all the appliances you use and where they'll be stored. Toothbrushes? Hair dryer? Razors? Perhaps you'd like to hide these outlets with storage drawers? An architect would certainly help you do that. Good luck with your decisions. Hope you'll share pics when done!
