If you ended up buying one, I would love to know h it has been working for you. I am thinking of ordering the 260-10. They tell me it is being discontinued as of the 29th. I like it because of its loose back cushions and the deep skirt, which I think is the part they are discontinuing. And it should be made to last according to the way they say it is built. The fabric I was considering is 434502.

Smith bros far exceeds Bassett quality. That said I did buy a smith bros chair and the upholstery was a mess. I had letters from two upholsters stating the fabric was not aligned correctly. Unfortunately the store I purchased from wouldn't back me. I had to return the chair to them...delivered it to their show room...and do a cc chargeback. That said I would buy Smith Bros again, just not from the same furniture store.

I bought a Smith Brothers sofa and loveseat in 1986 and used them until 2007. Had them reupholstered in the 90's just because I wanted a change. The original SB fabric was MUCH better than what i used the second time around. When I gave them up, they were still solid - the "new" fabric had not worn so well though. Needless to say, I bought ANOTHER Smith Brothers set in 2007. It also is wearing well. I am also looking at a leather Smith Brothers rocker/recliner in the near future. Their leather is pretty pricey, so I may do some comparison shopping with Hancock and Moore.

I JUST bought a Smith Brothers sofa, so I'm not the best reference for how well it's wearing (yet). I also read the various threads about the brand and fabric before purchasing, so I took great care to press the salesperson about their fabric. She said, overall, that the more polyester content in the fabric, the better it will wear. Then, if the buyer has animals or small children in the home, they need to pick a tight weave rather than a looser one. There are also statistics about "double rubs" that quantitatively determines the strength of fabric, so you should ask about that for the fabric you have in mind. My only complaint at the moment about the brand is that I paid a premium for an extra firm seat/back cushion package. The seat is nice and firm, but the back cushions are way too soft/collapsible. The store rep came out to see what the tag said about the weight of the padding inside the back cushions and is checking with the company on what the weight should be for extra firm cushions. I expect to hear back this week about that.

I chose 434502. It was just delivered today. The model was 260-10, which has been discontinued. I love it and so far it feels very well made and comfortable.
