We've got a 10' Nanawall on order and should be delivered (from Germany) in early November.. One thing that bit us with any of these 'big' doors is the lead time.. Nanawall and pretty much all of the others we looked into (including Marvin, Jeld-wen,etc) all had >10 week lead times.. Our Nanawall has a 13 week lead time and the ordering process can be very SLOW (the overall ordering process to get in the queue took somewhere between 2-3 weeks).. However, I believe their product is superior in terms of the hardware compared to the others -- all of which appear to use the SAME hardware for the locking mechanism which is made by one company. In our case our Nanawall is a bit over $10k for the 10' wide opening. Also because the top of the Nanawall is taller than the typical door, you might want to revisit the door height. We decided to increase the overall door height by several inches to have a door that looked 'normal' in terms of height (making us frame for a 7'3" rough opening).. Also, at least for the Nanawall, the majority of the door hangs from the header above the opening and there can NOT be more than 1/4" deflection in the beam over the width of the opening or you WILL have problems with the door.. We had to increase the beam size to accomodate this and do a bit of ceiling joist notching because of the odd height (after the structural engineer had his way) One other comment -- at least for us, if we use an authorized installer, it will extend our warranty for 1 extra year (to a total of 11 if I recall)

Sorry, he could have been, but it was so long ago I did this research I can't remember now. The part about being a community college professor is all I remember. I did find my email from Andrew Bunting in 2010: The Sequoia sempervirens we have on campus which does sometimes parade under the name of "Swarthmore Hardy" is from a plant we got from the Coker Arboretum in 1994 (i.e., the North Carolina/Venable tree, also marketed by Camellia Forest as 'Chapel Hill'.). We don't having any other old plants on campus. We do have a plant of Sequoia sempervirens that is about 30' feet tall that we got from the Barnes Arboretum in 1980. So I guess he means the larger S.s. on the Swarthmore campus, is the North Carolina/Coker/Venable tree. I can't say for sure because in spite a couple visits to the campus, I never noticed either one! As I said though, having owned clones of both for a few years now, they sure do look identical, so it corroborates Bunting's account. Now would be the time for someone to propagate the Barnes/U Washington clone! Sadly it isn't always easy. In 2016 I sent Cam Forest S.s. cuttings I collected at some elevation in the coast ranges after driving around for a day looking for one I thought would be in a 'cold spot'. It was a frost hollow at 1400'. Alas, the attempt to root them failed.

That niche does not look bad. It would be easy to fit in two slim cabinets on either side of the machines to hide the dryer vent and supplies. Unless that is in an area that guests will always see, I would not go through the hassle of doors. Maybe some art on the wall and leave it as it is. The area looks very clean and spare.

Hello Defrost 😃 Nice to have a new raised bed and that’s a good size. Have you used the square foot garden method before? I read that book a long time ago and it did encourage me to plant closer, but I don’t plant as close as they recommend. I definitely don’t measure off all the one foot sections. I should refresh my memory though on how close they suggest you can do and make the most of that space. I have a lot of bean seeds to use up. All kinds, pole/bush - some that are dry for storing, like kidney beans and heirloom soup beans. That should work based on some of the suggestions to grow something that doesn’t need to be picked every other day. Since I assume you leave them to dry and harvest once. I haven’t grown these before. I also think I will be able to make quick visits when I need to. It’s in the same town and a short drive away. We love peppers and use them all year. Not the hot varieties, unfortunately, which I would love but they wouldn't love me back. [g] They really do need very little attention. I have some seedlings started, but not as many as I would have liked due to a problem with my seed growing mix this year. I guess it’s too late to start more from seed. We have never grown melons due to the lack of sun, and the few times I did, it was not rewarding. So that is low on my list of priorities. I suspect you have to have a lot of experience with melons to get it right. Great idea about the mini butternut. I have a great mini cabbage we love, called Gonzales - which produces quickly a head that makes one big bowl of Cole slaw. As for what I can’t get at the supermarket - fresh green beans are hard to come by organic. I’d love to grow organic jicama, since I can’t get it organic and when I do get it, it’s not always in good shape. I’ll have to look up how you grow that. Maybe for next year. Beets - we love beets - I have new seed, I’m going to try that. I haven’t tried the yellow beet yet. Thanks for the idea. My Mom used to be the only one in the family who ate turnips so that is off the list. I was thinking of planting garlic, but you’re right, you have to plant in the fall. I can grow that at home. I planted some last Fall. I also am trying to plant bulbets off those I saved last year. They are very viable but I guess they take 2 years? Thanks for suggesting Johnny’s grower’s library. I always forget how much information is on that site. Potatoes…I love planting potatoes. I just started doing that 2 years ago and I bought more seed potato this year. I wanted to ask, I received whole potatoes, am I supposed to cut those in sections with eyes on them? We also love the fingerlings but they were out this year because I ordered late.
