I wish. I used to but not anymore. I habitually wake up at 2:30-3 a.m then toss and turn for ages. Nothing wakes me up....I don't have to go to the washroom, I just do.

Yes, I mostly sleep very well (touches wood)! I make bathroom visits during the night and then back to sleep.

I sleep in 2 hour increments it seems. After two hours I am wide awake and read for an hour or two. Then another two hours sleep and I get up for the day. I sometimes fall asleep in the afternoon but not for more than 30 minutes. I wish I got more sleep. Maybe I need it, maybe I don't?

I usually wake up once at night to use the bathroom, but I normally get 7-8 hours of sleep, and occasionally 9. For me, sleep is one of life's great pleasures.

This is a trick question, right? I haven't slept soundly since 1971 when our DS arrived. Now that I'm a Senior, with aches and pains, it's worse. First came the need for a small pillow to cushion between my knees (middle age). Then came the bladder wake-up once a night (around 70). Now (at 79), I don't think I get enough physical exercise to require 8 hours of sleep -- and I nap for 30 minutes around 2 p.m.

This morning I took a pain pill (Tylenol-4) at 5 a.m. I can take a 5 MG Zolpidem some nights, as long as it's not after 3 a.m. (Not *both* pills.) I have pain dues to spinal stenosis and osteo-arthritis, plus lesions on all my bones from multiple myeloma. I think I'm doing OK, but a whole night of peaceful sleep is RARE.

There are many reasons to not sleep at night. I think everybody needs to figure out their reasons why they are not sleeping at night. Some people get helped by knowing why though and some people don't . Medication can interfere so much as it does with both my sisters who are disabled.

I have been sleeping very well so far. I go to sleep about 11:30 p.m. and wake up somewhere between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. If I sleep much longer I get a headache. Generally speaking I do not wake up having to use the washroom. I know I am very lucky.

I think we do need more sleep but hormones and habits sometimes hurt that. One thing I have stopped doing is eating and drinking anything in the evening after 6:00 p.m. If I don't I have to use the washroom. That's a guarantee to disrupt my sleep.

I'm usually a pretty good sleeper. Generally wake up at least once (that's a good night) or two or three times to make a bathroom run but mostly go right back to sleep. I usually get 7 - 8 hours of sleep a night.

Never, especially if I have a few beers in the evening. lol I also usually wake up several times during the night a take a sip or 2 of the water I have on the bedside table. I usually fall asleep around 9 and wake around 4.

Since I was a teen, I have seldom had an eight-hour sleep. All through grammar school, I would be awake reading and then fall asleep at three and get up at seven. I had brain surgery at seven years of age and prior to that, I could sleep. I don't mind not sleeping as I have lots of energy and I never take a nap unless I'm ill. It's just part of my life and I don't really mind it.

I normally wake up at least once during the night between 3-5. I do have difficulty falling to sleep before my 20+ cat comes to bed. I can not take him to bed he must do it himself. When my hip hurts I may take something like a PM or slap a SalonPas small patch on it to ease the pain but can then either fall to sleep or back to sleep. I normally sleep 5-7 hours. It helps unless I can not find a comfortable position for my furry hot water bottles to lie next to me unless they decide that they want to hiss at each other. They seem to know when I am not feeling well and provide a warm circle surrounding me.

I'm lucky when it comes to sleeping. I fall asleep quickly (never more than 10 minutes after my head hits the pillow) and sleep very soundly. More often than not straight through until morning, but sometimes with a wake up for a bathroom visit. When I do have to get up, I can return to bed and fall asleep very quickly.

I've read that taking a short nap occasionally, short being something less than 30 minutes, is okay but regular napping can disturb your nighttime sleep and may suggest you have a sleep problem.

Sleep medicine (docs who specialize in treating patients for sleep issues) is one of the newest and still growing medical specialties. Regularly poor sleep has been found to have shockingly negative impacts on many aspects of general health or can be a sign of other problems. It's not just an inconvenience or unwanted part of life. Besides the effect or sign of other medical problems, consistently poor sleep can affect moods and feelings through the awake part of the day.

Insomnia in various forms or the inability to stay asleep can be signs of other problems too and can be treated. Those of you with poor sleeping habits would benefit from seeing a sleep doctor. Sleep clinics can be found all over but especially so at medical schools, for those of you who live near one.

Most of the time I sleep pretty much through the night. But then I will have a night or two where I wake up at 2:30 or 3, sometimes later and have difficulty going back to sleep. I just read for a little while and it puts me back to sleep usually. I never get up and get on the computer or watch tv or anything like that. I stay in bed. Doesn’t bother DH. A lot of times I can blame my periods of wakefulness to something I ate, but have no other ill effects from the food.

Sleep all night?? Almost never due to a necessary bathroom run or two. But I can fall immediately back asleep if much before my usual wake-up hour. In fact, I can fall asleep just about anywhere and at any time and reading a book or watching TV will pretty much guarantee it happening.

I sleep all night but sometimes have a problem falling asleep. If I wake up, I watch something boring on tv for about 30 minutes and ready to go back to sleep. Most nights I get a good 9 hrs of sleep.

I don't have any trouble sleeping, but almost every night Jody wakes me up to turn the air up or down or to get something for him. I can go back to sleep easily. I usually go to bed early...8 or 9 and I wake up around 5. I usually stay in bed until daylight, watching the news on TV. I seldom take a nap, but if I do, I fall asleep quickly.

I go to bed at 9:30 every night, and sleep straight through to 5:00am - every night. I don't take any sleep aids (or any other medications).

Sometimes I sleep through, and sometimes not. The things that prevent me sleeping include

Having that second or third glass of wine. (They are small glasses and I am a philistine so I put in 5 ice cubes, which I happen to know is about 1/3 of a cup.)

Worry. Don‘t tell me worrying doesn‘t help. Half the things I worry about never happen,)

Bed. There, there are a couple of problems. First, I think DH and I need to swap sides of the bed, so that it is easier for me to sleep on my left side. Second, it’s a queen, not a king, and I think the larger bed would help; I like to sprawl lol. Third, DH tends to wake up early, about 4 or 4:30, and when he gets up I wake up. I’m really not ready to get up yet.

These days, not really. Basically it's hormonal. I usually only wake up for a few minutes, but two or three of those really interrupt your sleep. I never get out of bed at night. My new normal for the last couple of weeks seems to be waking up between 4 and 4:30. It doesn't matter what time I went to bed, I'm awake by 4:30.

I sleep 8 to 10 hours most nights. Bedtime was 9pm and I changed to 8:30 few weeks ago. Few days a week I will lie down but not sleep for 20 minutes during the day . So thankful hubs and I rest well at night.

My routine is exactly like yours. I can’t remember the last time I slept through the night. I try to get six hours sleep but often it’s cut short. My saving grace is having a very flexible work schedule so if I don’t get back to sleep till 5 I can sleep till 8 or so. That’s when Ellie wakes me to go outside.

I seem to wake at about the 5-6 hour mark with the need to use the bathroom. I'm back asleep immediately, don't find that especially disruptive even if its a new habit within the last couple of years. I'll look at my clock, think Yay! It's just 5 AM and I can sleep another couple of hours at least. Do love my sleep these days ;0)

DH will get up once during the night too but we don't disturb each other. With me, it's that I sleep so soundly I don't hear him. With him, he's instantly awake and just as quickly comfortably back asleep. We are both grateful to be 'good sleepers' when so many we know are not....we don't take it for granted.

I really don't nap unless I can be outside and doze (lightly) in my chaise. And that really didn't take place this year. If I curl up inside and comfortably fall asleep in the afternoon, I sleep so soundly I don't wake feeling refreshed. More like almost drugged and I have a hard time being productive after a nap. There are days when a refreshing nap would be welcome but it just doesn't work that way for me, I fall too hard asleep. But can't complain, I can just about count on a regular 8 hours out of 24 when my brother, sister, and mother have never been good sleepers.

We seem to have a new routine. DH will go to bed and fall asleep watching sports. I'll go in to get ready for bed, take the remote and very quietly speak 'Nat Geo' into the voice command. He raises his head and says 'what?' and I say 'nothing', or 'never mind' and he is asleep again ;0) Every night.

Not for a few years. When I first started having trouble sleeping, I took the occasional Tylenol night time, but then read taking it is not good except very occasionally and to deal with pain.

Lately, I've been using the 5, 7, 9 breathing technique and found it life changing. I wish I had learned about it earlier. I've always had trouble letting go of worrying thoughts, and it has allowed me to halt the focus on those and sleep.

When our big ole' cat slept with us, he passed in July, he ate a snack @ 3am in his timed feeder. He'd tromple over my husband to get to me, curl up in the crook of my arm...all warm....cozy....we ALL slept! Now.....if the kittens come to bed immediately we sleep soundly. Otherwise, I keep waking up. Last night they slept under the bed. The radiant heat kept coming on. I didn't sleep well.

Between bathroom breaks I do. Then up after that to read a while.

I sleep pretty good most every night. Always with one bathroom break sometime between 1 and 3 am, but usually I fall back to sleep without too much trouble.. I think regular hours are the most important thing for me -- to bed around 10 or 10:30, awake by 7:15 or 7:45.

It’s currently five minutes to midnight here. In a moment I’ll turn off the iPad. I’ll be asleep in a few minutes and not wake until tomorrow at seven thirty, or whenever the alarm goes off. I don’t get up in the night and I don’t nap in the day. I do realise I’m very lucky.

Well, I sleep all day, does that count? I have been a night minion since I was 18, and while I have no problem sleeping at night when my schedule requires it, I am used to sleeping all day and being up all night.

On a normal day, I get home around 5:30 AM. make "breakfast" for myself and SO, then do whatever else needs to be done, then to bed. I am usually asleep by 7 am. I set my alarm for 3 pm in order to get up and get ready for work, and usually sleep through the day.

Being a night minion, there are more sleep interrupters I think than a regular sleeper. Delivery people, the power company sending their oafs out to do something, etc, all of which set the dogs to barking their heads off, thus waking me up sometimes. When we lived in a neighborhood that had 4 million unsupervised screaming kids living there it was tough. But that's all a part of it I guess. I almost never have an issue going back to sleep, especially now that we live on quiet acreage away from any neighbors and their noise.

SO recently started a new truck driving job at night. It was an adjustment to sleeping at the same time as him. He is a squirmer, and simply giant at 6 foot 5 and therefore sometimes sleeps diagonally across the bed, thus encroaching on my space. He has trouble sleeping during the day. He is not a natural born night minion like me. And he sometimes wakes me up. But like I said, I go back to sleep pretty easily.

I found that once I committed to exercising every day a couple years ago, I sleep better. I sleep longer and more soundly than before, and wake up feeling rested. It was a real positive change for me all around.

Well, I have been up since 3 AM....

Went to sleep about 11:30 and awake since 2. It's 4:30 now and I hear DH making coffee in the kitchen. Good morning, ratherbesewing!

I've been going to sleep at about 8. With the time change, I want to crawl in at 7.

I get up about twice a night for the bladder run.

I probably sleep in 2 hour increments and it takes forever to get back to sleep. I'm up with, or before dawn. I've been awake for the past 90 minutes for instance, but still being dark out there, I resort to the Internet (or sometimes a book)

I had to add the other reason I don't sleep some nights: leg and foot cramps. They really are starting to affect my life now, I'm going to pursue it with my doctor next month.

I've had leg and foot cramps night and day all of my life. They are greatly reduced as long as I have two bananas a day plus peanut butter in my case. I cannot take potassium pills but it works for some.

My potassium levels are high and my Dr. told me to cut down on bananas, potatoes, etc. It's been 3 months and I wouldn't say my leg cramps have increased. I should track it, but I haven't noticed a change whether I exercise, or drink more water, etc. It's driving me mad.

For those of you with leg cramps, here is a product that stops them in five minutes. It's amazing.

I might try it. My standby, and it works for me, is to stand on a cold, hard floor, like the bathroom floor. But it doesn't work when the cramp is in the instep. And lately they area coming back soon after I lay back down.

I sleep really good but I only go to bed when I am tired and hardly during the night. fall right to sleep and am in the same position when I wake up 8 hours later. I am a night owl as is my brother and my niece. I tend to stay awake usually for 36 hours then I sleep for 8 hours. I will doze off into a deep sleep for about a half hour or so every now and then when I am sitting on the couch. I will go to bed sometime during the day and sleep really deep.

I am in darkness most of the time because when I get up my cousin is sleeping on her roll out bed in my living room or just getting ready to go to bed. I turn on the computer, sit in the dark on the couch and do genealogy or jigsaw puzzles or read a book until morning. I do laundry. I have dinner for breakfast. Her being here was supposed to be temporary until she found an apartment but the waiting list for geared to income senior apartments is 5 years or more. Before she came I did my housework at night, laundry, baking, cooking for the next day. If I have plans to go out the next day or whenever I had to go to work I rearrange my sleep pattern but most of the time I am not going anywhere so it doesn't really matter when I go to bed to sleep. My brother's wife says my brother is just like I am and my niece calls our sleep pattern the family curse haha. I should have been born on the other side of the world.

It's actually more natural to have two or three distinct periods of sleep. The idea of sleeping 8 hours straight through is a relatively modern concept.
