Mine are in my clothes pin bag in case I need them. Mine are not the pinch kind of clothes pins.

I'm a first grade teacher and I use lots in my classroom. I hang their work for display and have many with names on them to tell what student has what job for the week.

At home, I use them to hold wet plastic bags that I've washed to reuse and, like you, to secure open bags. I reuse the ones from my classroom by bringing them home at the end of each school year. It always makes me smile at the memories when I grab a clothespin with someone's name on it.

I use them on bags to keep them closed and in crafting to hold stuff together.

I use them like those plastic “chip clips” to clip bags closed in the kitchen.

I glued little magnets to some and use them to clip notes on the refrigerator. Painted each person's name on some, years ago, but those are gone now.

I use mine to hang my laundry but I do have a few in my junk drawer to close the cereal bags when they're first opened. Some cereal liners are too strong for me to tear open, so I cut them, then I slip them closed until I can roll the top down.

Funny/not funny story. I have an on-going battle with the newer tenant who lives in my small building. She's out to get me and has complained to the city 3 times about me putting out the recycling and trash too early, and various other complaints.

I hang my little clothespin bag on the line when my laundry is drying. Recently I realized that I can barely get one load of laundry hung then I run out of pins. The bag used to be bulging and now it's only half-full. I had a mix of wooden and plastic clothespins and I have 2 plastic ones. Hmmmm are the birds picking them out of the bag and taking off with them? I doubt it.

It took a few dollar stores before I could find some to buy. I now bring my basket and little bag inside. Sigh.

Jasdip, some people are so petty. Perhaps some happy day this person will move on, she doesn't sound like the type to be satisfied anywhere.

Clothes pins: Most are in the junk drawer, available to close various bags. A half-dozen are clipped to the clothesline in the basement. A few are clipped to curtains that I occasionally want open but don't have ties or hold-backs for. And one lives in my travel bag, for holding hotel room curtains together for assured privacy or darkness -- sure would like to use that one again!

We are probably the only people on the block that hang our clothes out to dry. There is nothing like line dried towels and sheets--so fresh.

We always have a few in our travel bags--they come in handy for fastening hotel draperies closed so the sun doesn't wake us up in the morning.

And I'm pretty sure this isn't the kind of use you were expecting--but I made these for my laundry room with some old wooden clothespins:

I don't think I even have any clothes pins anymore. If I do I have no idea where they are.

Oh, and I clip my shopping or errand to-do lists and coupons together when going shopping. I’ll also clip a printout of the recipe if I’m shopping for something specific, so I can look at it and determine if a substitute of item, flavor, or quantity will work.

Most all of the above, as well as in the garden. In the Spring when we have late freezes, I'll cover up my plants. Most of the plants have tomato cages around them, and I pin the sheets to those.

Still have my wooden clothes pins from years ago. I love hanging my sheets on the clothesline blowing from the ocean breeze. Also clip bags in kitchen.

They make good clamps when gluing small things together.

Have never owned a clothes pin :-) Laundry drying lines outdoors are virtually unheard of in my area.

I too use them for gardening but instead of clipping them to cages I toss the sheets over the plants then carefully bunch the fabric together to form a cloth bag over the plant. I have found those x long flat sheets really good for this.

Having seen how much dust I had on my car even one day after washing it there is no way that I would hang anything other than a cleaning cloth out to dry. It would have more dirt on it than before washing.

I hang most of my laundry outside to dry when the weather permits. I keep my clothes pins in a one gallon bucket and I always bring it in with me, although no one would bother it if left out. I am terrified of spiders and I don't want one to take up residence with my clothes pins.

I clamp bag of Cheetos shut but mostly I use them to always hang a long line of clothes on the line year-round unless it's raining. It's way more work than throwing them in the dryer right beside the washer but I love air-dried clothes.

I hang my clothes outside. the weather almost always permits that! If it's raining I just wait a day or 2 before washing stuff. I use them for food bag clips (and other bags of things), to hold my bedroom curtain open/ closed (some day I'll get out and buy a different rod for them) and as a clamp

I use them for almost all the things others do, but I also have 2 or 3 in the bathroom to hold a tube rolled down so more can be removed from them and less is wasted.

I guess we're out of step with all of you. I haven't had a clothesline or clothes pins anytime in my adult life.

I hung clothes outdoors when I lived in Venice, but that was partly because we had an electric dryer, and it used way too much electricity. I did not realize I had a gas hook-up when I bought the electric dryer or that it would use so much electricity.

I do not have a clothesline in Westchester, but at least I have a gas dryer both here and in Cathedral City. I do lay quite a few things out to dry in CC, and they get dry extremely quickly there.

I only use clothespins for hanging clothes; I use office binder clips for bags of chips. I also never tear open any bags - I use scissors on all of them.

I have a handful of wooden ones. I mostly use them for closing bags of potting soil or other items on my potting bench.

I haven’t had a clothesline either. I have a drying rack in my laundry room but no clothesline. Too many birds.

Lars, when I spent a summer in Scottsdale AZ, the dryer went out, and there was no clothesline. But I could lay things, even towels, over the backs of the patio chairs and they dried in a jiffy. They are kidding when they say “it’s a dry heat”.

We have a collection of older clothespins bought at thrift stores. Old ones and have stronger springs and stronger wood than newer ones.

yes, those older clothespins are treasures, compared to the cheap new ones. I don't think any of my new ones could stand up to hanging clothes on an outside line, they'd snap in the first breeze. My mom would not have put up with them, lol!

Hanging laundry to dry is one of life’s little pleasures! I have a clothesline on our screened porch, and there is something hanging on it almost every day of the year. I easily remove the line when we have guests dining on the porch.

I use regular clothespins for the lines outside. I use them quite a bit too when the weather is good for it. Got a handful in the craft room too for small clamps.

I have miniature clothes pins that I use for a lot of different crafting for tiny clamps, and also for clamping things in my miniature villages. A lot of light string clamping.

I wear an oversized poncho when hiking in the rain. When it's raining I'll carry my small dog in a carrier on my front. I'll pull the front of the poncho up over his head, then pull the gap below him closed and fasten with clothespins.

I used to hang clothes out but I think I'm too lazy to shake them or whatever it takes to really make them come out nice and soft. Electric is costly but it's much easier. (Here, in warmer weather, I pay for the electric the dryer uses, plus the increased cost of cooling due to a portion of heat escaping the dryer)

Matthias, thank you for the throwback to cards on the bicycle spokes! We used playing cards, and always got in trouble for using their bridge cards instead of the, well, Bicycle cards.

At the rush of sounding like my own mother, the older clothespins ARE better. True fact.

That trip down memory lane reminds me of the crafts we did:

Wooden dolls with the peg-style pins, using sewing scraps for clothes.

Reindeer ornaments.

And if you take a spring-type clothespin apart, dip it lightly in green paint, it makes a good enough “bamboo” stamp for a summer camp art project.

Matthias, I'm not sure if they still have them, but I used to get wooden clothespins with good springs at Lee Valley. They didn't come apart the way the dollar store ones do. They cost much more, of course.

I've had on my Amazon wish list some big heavy duty metal clothespins that I thought would be good for when we air out a heavy wool blanket. Otherwise, we just use about 30 pins to really hold it.

Something unusual (and also heavy) that I put on the clothes line is a big sheet of agricultural mulching plastic. You know-- a heavy duty sheet of black plastic. I use it every couple of years and at the end of the season hang it on the clothesline to hose it off and then dry it....I've had tents, tarps, and mosquito netting on the clothes line, too.

There is someone in the US who home manufactures clothespins. I think they cost about $8 each. But they have really strong springs and wood. You can save money by buying them from him non-assembled....You can see wimpy clothes pins annoy me, eh? I probably have a bookmark for those, but I'm not going to go looking just now.

We do not have any clothes pins in the house. After 3 years of marriage, we had a starter house built for us, and have used a clothes dryer ever since. That's 57 yrs of dryer use.

There is nothing like getting into bed at night with sheets that were just washed and dried in the sun. Same with towels. All my clothespins are very old. I got them at an auction decades ago. Some are the clamp kind, others are one piece.

I have never owned a clothes dryer except for a few years when I lived in upstate NY and it rained ALL the time. I love sun dried clothes. I use clothes pins for that of course and also to attach squares of tinfoil(with smears of peanut butter) to the electric fence to attract and then discourage deer. I also use them to close up holes in row covers. Also use them to attach deer netting around a couple of shrubs during the winter. Invaluable little items.

I can't think of anything extraordinary that I use clothes pins for that hasn't already been mentioned. I do have a big stash of them though. I realized that the new ones they sell are very flimsy. So, I found a container of old ones, the clip variety, at a garage sale for a dollar. I have a lifetime supply of them and they are heavy duty and clip securely.

I haven't owned regular clothespins in my adult life. I do have some of the vinyl coated wire clips that I use for reclosing bread bags, holding plastic table clothe to picnic tables etc. For travel I always take a few binder clips with me. A couple of large ones and a couple of small ones. They are more versatile than basic clothes pins.
