Dining Room Dilemma ! Help

Hello,

I need help! I have a dining room that has 2 entrances 1 too the kitchen another to the entrance door both entrances have no doors. This space is my dining room i tried to do the math but need further assistances.

my living space for this room is 9”9 ft x 10”9 ft i am trying to find what type of dining table would be best & how many seats & as i tried to do the math i came up with this & if I’m wrong correct me.

I turned 10”9 ft into 327.66 cm & did the same w/

9”9 ft into 297.18 cm i was told by west elm to

Now subtract 184 from both answers i got and i did as told and got 327.66 - 184 = 143.66 cm

297.18 - 184 = 113.18 cm

so therefor it leaves me with this answer

143x113 size table

but now i am having a hard time finding out what size table, what shape is best. I honestly don’t think i did this right, someone pls help.

i would also want a small buffet if i can 63 L 18 width.

Not sure why you converted to metric. If you are the US and buying a table in feet and inches, just leave 3 feet on either side to pull out the chairs.

Your biggest table could be 3' 9 " X 4'9" or 45" X 57". Deduct 18" for your buffet so 45" x 39" is about the maximum dimensions of your table. It will seat 4.

West Elm and other sites showed to do it like that, it doesn’t make sense to me either. Weird

I am not brilliant in math & i am a new home owner I never cared to decorate apartments and damage furniture in the move so now i am trying to make this house a home. I was never bright in math.

Hi, Sue-- This is such a cool space with a distinct point of view. Really like what you're doing here. Just a quick follow-up question: what's happening at the far end of the sideboard? Could you share an image of that whole wall? Think you've got the buffet area dialed in with art scale and styling, but would maybe think about grouping your art on that other wall differently - it's a little hard to tell what the focus is there. I'd also think about pulling your two small art pieces flanking the china cabinet and featuring them on that larger wall as an option, too. They get a little lost squeezed in tight on that current wall. Agree that a chandelier in here (bubble glass / sputnik) will help throw light around and create additional focus over the table. I wouldn't add an area rug over carpet in here, though, since it undercuts the mod vibe you've got going. You have such beautiful blond corner panelling - have you considered a low-light friendly plant in two corners to feature the verticality and add a touch of green to the space? Sansevieria (snake plant) is very tolerant of low light and fits a modern, streamlined feel.

This scheme shows an 8 x 10 area rug, a 6’ wide table, and 6 23” wide chairs. You always want a rug large enough so when chairs are pulled back all legs stay on the rug. This amount of space also allows guests to get up from the table without disturbing neighbors and for you, as host to comfortable walk around the table when guests are seated. For a 60” dining table, a 30” chandelier is appropriate. I notice in the plans there is a vaulted ceiling, so get a fixture which reflects on the ceiling as well as lights the table. Dimmer a must! Use the solid wall for your choice of wall decor. Because the room is smaller, I would place the buffet in the hall area. It can work as your server because it is close enough, but also add a lovely piece to the empty wall.

Do not do or get anything until you have a solid plan. Getting peices here and there won't get you a cohesive and united look. Even eclectic has its rules. Please do your research thoroughly before proceeding. The light needs to go. Take advantage of your vertical space (go up!). Put ideas in top HOUZZ search box (one at a time), such as the three design styles you mentioned. Note what you like and don't like. Take the leaf out and put it in only if you need it. If you need help getting organized for your design plan, do the following: get a thin three ring binder, loose leaf papers, tabs, plastic top loading paper holders. Your categories will be as follow: ideas, vendors (stores), budget, timeline.

How many do you want to seat is really the 1 st step. So give us that to work with IMO in such a small space probably no buffet . Post some pics of the space too.

If you prefer a visual in the room, use masking tape to mark out a 3 foot wide border around the room. That space needs to be there for chairs. What is left in the middle is the space for your table. If you want to keep a buffet, then mark 3 feet from the edge of the buffet.

Your round table looks to be a good size for the room. Maybe just work with what you have and buy chairs for it? As a new home owner you probably have lots of other things that you need to buy too.
