Hi Butterfly! I might try to 'segregate' the plants, hopefully in different rooms maybe. I read that if you put 1/2 inch of sand on top of your soil that keeps fungus gnats away. I soaked my banana in water for 24 hours, that hopefully will kill any bugs in the soil, not sure about eggs though. I'll try to post a pic of the banana later, it's only 3 feet tall, it'd be taller but I have it in a smaller pot (like a 10 inch one). If you have big plants and have trouble carrying them (I know what you mean, just toting the banana is tough to do, but I have to repot it), some plant catalogs and stores sell flat plant stand thingies with casters (wheels) on them, maybe you could get something like that? I had one banana, and it's got 2 pups now. :) I just hope my indoor ones don't get any diseases (crossing my fingers).

Alex, when you said the leaves were yellow and veins dark green, the first thing that came to mind was a mineral deficiency, but after looking at your picture, I see nothing that indicates this problem. What size pot was your citrus in, and what size did you plant to? If it's overpotted, that may be one reason foliage slowed-down in growth. As for citrus soil, do you know what the mediums consist of? It may not contain any nutrients, therefore, citrus should be fertilized. They're semi-heavy feeders during growing seasons..They also require nutrients such as iron, magnesium, etc. Also, because a soil is marked citrus, doesn't necessairly mean other mediums shouldn't be added..For instance, they sell cactus & succulent soils, but some are too heavy and will drown plants..they also sell house plant soil that's too heavy or too light..if too heavy, in either soils, Perlite and/or sand should be added. I reread where you wrote the soil is a citrus/cactus mix..Never heard of this combo..I am curious what it consists of. Did you add any other mediums when you repotted? Alex, there's definatly something wrong if your soil is still moist after 4-6 wks..Either you've overpotted, the soil's way too heavy, or both. How many leaves have yellowed? Alex, if it were my citrus, I'd work on soil and pot size. Otherwise, your kumquat will worsen and can die. Roots are staying wet which isn't good. Eventually, they won't be able to take in liquids...can't absorb oxygen. Good luck, Alex.. Dancing. Decreasing light is a great start when approaching, grey winter months. 'If one has the room.' When I had 'X' amount of plants, each plant, despite type, were set in a shadier spot every second day until plants were brought indoors. Because of the number of plants accumulated over the years, I simply don't have the space. Nowadays, I count on natural daylight or lack of. Two months ago, the sun set around 9pm. As time passed, daylight grew shorter, darkness set in much earlier. By 6:30 p.m., unless there's a full moon, we're in total darkness. 3-hour difference is a backwards leap. So, if you have the room and a shadier area, it's a good idea acclimating, otherwise, counting on natural darkness is the second best option. Artificial lighting, even 3-4 hours after dark makes a difference. Of course there are other factors like humidity and fresh, circulating air. If you're in warm location, an opepn winow and ceiling/rotating fan parrots fresh air Citrus were getting outside. Same w/a humidifier, which I run once plants are brought indoors. There's a good number of tricks keeping plants wintered indoors. Toni

Ive read here that 55F or so is "absolute zero" for citrus roots. They wont die, but they dont suck up water or nutrients. When bringing in for the winter, it should be before this temp, or they should be brought into a coolish, really humid environment (or misted a lot) If the roots got too cold to work, and theyre brought into warmpth, the leaves keep trying to work, and because they get too dry, they fall off. I understand its not fatal if you DO warm the roots up (or they come up to temp), and misting or leaving out a bowl of water for humidity should help. Also, IMHO, keeping them away from lights/drawing the windowshade for a few stress-free days might help (hopefully its dropped all its going to drop) good luck! and may you harves more fruits!
