Dining Room Furniture for a Small Room? (Photos inc.)
Comments (29)I have passed your ideas about the built-ins to DH. I think this WOULD be the most attractive yet efficient use of space . . .and I've always wanted a window seat!!! We'll see what DH says. He is pretty handy, but he's never done anything like that at ALL. Too bad I don't have more $, because I do know a reasonably-priced, perfectionist carpenter! I am glad that you have pointed out that there wouldn't be much space to store things in the corner units, esp. the bookcase. I had wondered about that, but you've confirmed it. Maybe that bookcase was meant more to display things other than books? I like the idea of storing books behind the doors of a cabinet because it would mean I wouldn't have to search for a bookcase, but I am not sure how practical it would be . . .I find older pieces harder to open/close so I wouldn't want the kids to that regularly. Also, if the books are put away, they probably won't use them, since they'd be out of sight/out of mind. The binders in that room will be moved elsewhere, however! Some of you suggested painting that gold mirror . . .maybe I should. I don't know what to do with it! I bought it "custom" because it went with some other frames I had, but I am not in love with it. I'd rather go for something with more curves, etc.-- old! Ah, so many decorating mistakes I've made! Anyway, this thread has been so helpful! I cannot tell you how much it has helped me!!!!...See Moredining room furniture is IN, help decorate the room, please!
Comments (92)trish-I hope you see this, you posted almost a week ago, I have not been on these boards for a few days! Can you PLEASE take a picture of the furniture and post it? I am dying to see it in another setting. Do you think the DR set was in the house originally? What year was your house built? What color are the seats...and are they the same at your neighbor's house across the street? Where do you live? Ok, so my DH actually had possession of *HIS* dining room set, that was exactly like MINE...up until the mid nineties. His mom had saved it (parents are divorced). He tried to sell it at one point, and refinshed the top and spruced it up nicely. I think he was asking 1k for the whole set...hutch, table, chairs...and he had NO ONE buy it. They would come, look, offer him 200 bucks, he just couldn't (wouldn't, I suppose, LOL) sell it at that price. Then again, this was BEFORE the internet. He didn't reach too many potential buyers with his ad in the paper. I was kind of happy, cuz I said, "Good, let's keep it for the extra chairs and leaf and just store the rest of it!" His office has a warehouse/storage area, so that's why I considered it...I am not a believer in paying good money to store more "things." But since it is available, we do it sometimes. Well, at this time, his dad did not have a DR table so DH just put it there to keep it, and so his dad would have a table. A few months later, one of his sisters moved in, brought her own stuff...and GAVE AWAY the hutch and two end chairs...and PUT THE TABLE OUT BY THE CURB FOR BULK PICKUP! *fanning self* I was LIVID! I still talk about it to this day, but my DH keeps saying, "Let it go, honey!!" I think he is mad too, but also embarrassed. SO...remember...just a few years ago, I saw this table for sale on a grocery store bulletin board, and the whole set with hutch was in the $200 range...maybe $250? It really is heavy duty, solid wood. BUT...apparently very common and mass produced! I would just like to know a little more about it. I cannot find any name on it as to who made it, where it is from originally, etc. BTW...his sister moved out a few months later, and once again, DH''s dad was left with no table. *sigh*...See MoreFamily Room Furniture Conundrum
Comments (4)Tough! Are the bar stools a must? You could turn the bar into a pass through or standing only bar (cut off the counter and make the wall flush). Then you could float an L-shaped sofa in front of that area with room to walk behind. The L would come out so you could face the fireplace if you want. Put the TV between the two windows facing. The TV would extend into the window space so keep it on a low cabinet. You could get blinds that roll down from the top, preserving the view, light and so you won’t see the TV from outside. You could put a chair in the far corner near the fireplace. That leaves your entry door and the other entries more free. TV in front of windows isn’t ideal but it would keep the hubby doing dishes!...See MoreOpen concept living room + dining room - furniture advice needed
Comments (3)Once you have furniture in your space the chair rail will not be noticed on that side. It will not be the focal point. Your furnishings and artwork will be what people will see. Also, spaces that are completely balanced are not nearly as interesting as having a little asymmetry here and there imo....See MoreRelated Professionals
