What style of garage should I put on this house?
Comments (2)I love modern architecture, but I really am not a fan of the translucent garage doors. I've seen them on several projects and they haven't won me over. One loft style building here has them, but they used clear glass, and you can see all the tenants belonging and can tell if they're home or not by whether or not there's a car in the garage! Back to the point though, your house doesn't have any flat roofs (excluding the carport, which is an add-on). Why not go back with a roof at the same pitch? It would blend in more I think. Have you verified your allowable building setback to know if you can even add on a garage there? Just because a carport was added there doesn't mean it's in compliance....See MoreWaaa! Color help! Comments (2)I hate stain. (don't tell anyone I said that) If Cabot is a product option for you, that's a good thing. Lowe's sells sample pots - at least all the Lowe's I know of sell sample pots of Cabot's stain colors. You can mix stain colors easier than you can mix paint colors. The trick is to keep the ratios even if at all possible. Painter may have a stroke if you end up with a custom mixed stain color. That's okay, he'll survive. Just remind him that that's what those five gallon buckets are for. Buy samples. Test colors. Hopefully one straight out of the can will work for you 'cuz that would definitely be the eaiser option. If you have the option of Sherwin Williams, their WoodScapes (solid or semi-transparent) is another really good exterior stain choice IMO. Many colors to choose from, varies a lil from the BenM solid stain palette. Good luck! :D Here is a link that might be useful: Cabot Solid Stain Sample Colors...See MorePlease help! What color garage doors should we choose?
Comments (8)To me, unless you want to do a total color change on the entire house, then the garage doors should just stay as they are. For you to "fix" that house, you're going to have to commit to a total package color change and by that I mean the red brick and the whole nine yards. So if you're not willing to consider that, then just leave the garage doors white and the front door black. There's no other color to paint the garage doors with the rest of the house as it is. IMO....See MoreWhat color should I paint my garage and front door?
Comments (2)Garage door same color as siding so it recedes from view as much as possible. Front door a bright white like your window trim - or a creamy white like your house trim (fascia) will make your front door pop (like it should). Or, you could paint your front door a lime green or other bold (orange or yellow) not-dark color like below. As mentioned you have mainly glass so the green/color border is really diminished. Landscaping would really help your home. Right now all the emphasis is on your driveway and garage door. Post in the landscaping sub-forum for a landscape plan and plant help....See Moreskigirl308
