yeah you can't get to anything to fix it..but as i said, it opens far enough to get things in and out..just not all the way..and it is sticky, but does open.. so better to store things in it that i don't often need. as i said two of the drawers in that unit are like that..i think the unit was built with too tight dimensions..and they forced the drawers into the glides and then couldn't get them back out so they left it like that. i wouldn't buy from that company again..but do like the piece..and have enough other storage to where i can use it like this basically what brought me to doing this was re reading my notes on "putting things that you seldom use in those more inconvenient places, and things you use allt he time in the convenient easy to get at storage" that was what got me thinking about using those drawers for the things i seldom use.. not actually asking for repair advice..but thinking more on the lines of how to use the inconvenient storage to it's best potential..i'm sure we all have some inconvenient storage that we use that way..like the cabinets above the frig or washer/dryer..top shelves in our closets,etc.

I recently bought two kinds of liners from Lowes. (to make my old cabinets look less worn out! One was the clear liner that is ribbed and it seems very sturdy. Put it in my silverware drawer, and pots and pans drawer, etc. I also got maybe a Rubbermaid product that is printed and kind of cushy. I put it in less heavy duty areas - my towel drawer, under spices etc. I was surprised to read that you can wash it in the washing machine if it gets dirty. wow. Here is my tip though. I have always cut liners by just showing the stuff in there, creasing it where it meets the wall then cutting it with scissors Surrpisingly time consuming, and not very perfect. This time I measured my drawers and cut it with my rotary cutter and mat and rulers I used for quilting. It was so quick and easy and fits perfectly. Even the ribbed clear plastic cut with ease. Now I want to do my bathrooms too.

Best for what? Measure your stuff, like your biggest pan, biggest pot, plates, etc. Realize that bulky things like dish towels or pot holders take up a lot of space, and that you might want a deeper drawer for them. Find out what your options are for the sides of the cabinet boxes - MDF or plywood or other - and what weight the drawer glides can handle, being sure to include the weight of the drawers in the calculation! Just ask a2gemini We have 27", 30", 33," and 48" drawers. The top drawers are shallow and the lower drawers in the three-drawer bank are pretty deep. Just because a drawer is deep (or tall, if you want to put it that way, doesn't mean that everything in it has to take up the entire vertical measurement. We did make two 30" drawers be deeper than the others - they're on an island so I doubt anyone would notice. We wanted to be able to stand a regular spice jar on end, which we ended up not doing, but it's a great place to store some of our bigger tools like the lemon squeezer thing. We were guided in part by the kitchen in the house we rented, and by pictures of my mother's fabulous and well-organized kitchen. The rental kitchen consisted mostly of four-drawer stacks with three shallow drawers and a deep one at the bottom. VERY LITTLE could fit into those shallow drawers, we're talking a flatware try and boxes of foil, plastic wrap, etc. ANYWAY, tell us what your stuff is like and how much available cabinet space there is to use!

We looked into portables but don't have room to put one. Also there are no used ones under $100 for sale near us, the few times we've checked. (I'm also squeamish and don't care to own a used dishwasher.) :-) The family is rooting for us to put a dishwasher in to make our lives more comfortable and convenient while waiting to buy. They know that not having a dishwasher is a drawback and deterrent to would-be buyers, too, so they feel this would help cover their investment should we decide to back out for some reason (we don't plan to unless the world ends). I LOVE to cook and cook elaborately and not having a d/w has forced me to resort to paper plates and many, many sandwiches and heat-ups. Believe me, we've thought this through and through, moving from/selling a home with a remodeled kitchen to this one, and have done the "trial period" of living w/o a d/w for 7 months now. Yep, I really want one. And the one I am getting will be the same one that gets re-installed into my remodeled kitchen -- researched them till my eyes bled. So it's not an impulsive decision for sure. :-)
