Bathroom closet shelving design/ suppliers - Elfa line/ anything else?

Hi everyone. We are planning for a bathroom remodeling project. This will be our kids bathroom (2 boys 3 and 5) and also the guest bathroom when we have guests over.... :-)

We have two questions on what to do with the closet. See the pic - we have a deep closet (door on the left, 28" deep by 39" wide inside space) to the right as soon as you enter the bathroom.

The first question is that we really want to re-design the shelving inside the closet to make it more usable. Some of the shelves are too deep (pic attached - big mess right now). We would like to be able to use some of the space for storing towels/ linen and a must have is to have a laundry hamper - we prefer something that can be pulled out on sliders... We do not want to spend money in getting custom cabinetry made and the closest I have come across is to fix something up with the Elfa line from the Container Store. Any ideas on how others here have gone about doing the design/ spec-ing this out etc.? Any other places other than Container Store which offers modular solutions to build this out? We will have a contractor for the remodeling so they can also take care of the shelving installation.

The second question is whether or not to keep the door. Right now we are inclined to keep it - i read through a few posts on this forum and it seems it is a matter of personal preference. Our point is it will remove the stress of always keeping it clean and organized if there is no door. However open to ideas that will go well with the "custom shelving" described above.

Thanks!
