Overwhelmed basement finishing what next

So we started finishing off basement on 9/22 and it has been a worldwind. Starting to get chaotic and might have given ourselves too short of a deadline.

we have completed electrical, walls done, painted. We have ordered the carpet and the cabinets. Carpet arrives in 3 weeks. Below is list of what is left, any opinions on what HAS to get done and what could wait until after carpet.

1. hanging pre hung doors. ( we have 3)

2. plumbing for shower, toilet, faucet. ( currently have gotten as far as getting close to install shower base. But need to lay concrete I assume once plumbing is in place under shower base.

3. Sheetrock bathroom, mud and tape, paint, ceiling.

4. vinyl plank flooring for bathroom

5. Hang cabinets and install for wet bar area

6. install skirt board on stairs ( has to be done or they won’t install carpet on stairs)

7. Baseboard trim ( we have a lot of to do. Bedroom, game room and large entertainment area. )

we are doing everything ourselves, along with some help from 14 year old son. We did hire for electrical and Sheetrock of main areas.

basically wondering which is better option abandoned bathroom and just finish this winter after carpet installed or abandon baseboard trim. The weather is nice this week so it would be a great time to stain baseboards.

Everything needs to be done on your list, but bathroom flooring you can do later that will not make too much of a mess since it's a small area, and installing vinyl flooring is now making too much of a mess since you can scribe it to cut.

Other than that you need doors and you need moldings before carpet, get everything painted so only touch-ups left. Get taping and sanding out of the way, get the plumbing done, and paint the bathroom so the only thing you have left is a few touch-ups and vacuum the carpet.

Everything is painted except for the bathroom. My father in law said he would stain the trim which would be huge Help.

Those are pavers. They need to be installed over a crushed stone base that's packed down tight in order for the installation be smooth, professional looking and lasting. What we use is typically called "paver base" (limestone screenings) but in different parts of the country it would go by different names. If push comes to shove, sand will work, but it's not going to be as durable. In my opinion, a mowing strip that is less than 8" in width (the length of a typical brick) is too narrow, so pick a paver as wide or do a double row as you mentioned. I notice that in the picture, they installed the mowing strip with a sunken plastic landscape edging (which helps keep the pavers aligned and in place, side to side. The edging should be sunk deep enough so that it doesn't show. Hopefully, there will be a couple of things you do differently from the above picture: 1) don't make purposeless looping curves and curlicues in the shape of the bed. And 2) don't make the bed so narrow, pinched up against the house, so that it's really too small to accommodate the size of the plants. In the above scene the plants will be spilling well over the paver border and covering it up unless they are freakily trimmed to unrealistic sizes.

Try this address, it is the direct one. www.community.webshots.com/user/forroberts For access, I created a small closet where my electrical entrance is located and the ceiling inside is open. Same with the closets which are behind the Frence Doors. Because water and electrical conduit were already suspended below the joists, I attached 2 x 4's to the joists in order to hang the drywall - thus the 1.5" clearance should anything need to be installed in the future. What flooring did you do in your finished basement?

I did our basement floor with Delta-FL (like dricore but all plastic) as a "subfloor" and Allure linoleum floating floor from HD. It meets requirements (cheap tough dry play room) but it is not a proper installation. The delta product wants a sub floor if the laminate is not used. Because the floor does not have a proper subfloor it is really soft - which is great for 4 young kids banging their heads, but not for heavy furnature feet. We have had problems with water in the basement. I have made some changes outside (grading and downspouts) that I hope fixes the problem. However, I still plan to have water down there at somepoint. The Delta keeps the floor off the concrete and a sump pump makes sure it gets rid of any water that might accumilate. If the pump fails or some other problem and the basement floods, the linoleum is water proof. Delta is $0.51/sq ft and the Allure was $1.67/sq ft.

The order I would do it: paint walls, doors and trim, dry bar, flooring, vanity. You need to take the flooring into account when doing the trim. If you were using a hard surface floor in the area of the dry bar I'd do the flooring first. With carpet you want the cabinets to rest on a hard surface. They may need to be raised slightly. BTW--not a professional--just watched our 3 houses being built so this seems right to me. There are likely to be different opinions on this order. Different builders sometimes do things in a slightly different order--maybe trim before painting for example.

When building a home for a customer or an average size project like an addition, etc carpet is the last thing to go in, right after the carpet, the painter goes in and does minor touch-ups and a cleaning crew right after that.

Since this is your home and you doing the work yourself, do what you can and when you can because you don't have to answer to anyone.

Thanks I think we underestimated what we had left and the time it would take. we Thought 4 weeks was enough for what we had left and we like I said we hadn’t planned on trim.

NEVER put yourself on an unattainable schedule - you’ll take shortcuts for which you will be dissatisfied or find necessary to do over. Guests will understand work-in-progress and you can show your finishing with what has been accomplished. BTW - I spent 5 years completing our basement DIY. Visitors were always anxious to see progress.
