Too much white?
Comments (11)I like the soapstone idea b/c soapstone is impervious to spills and chemicals. Jillalameda, my "beige" is mottled -- a porcelain from Italy that looks like travertine. I could also go with the whitish tile from American Olean in their Costa Rei line. My big floor thing is finding a large field tile and matching mosaic for the curbless shower -- a field tile that will disguise cat fur and my husband's rapidly-disappearing hair. Do you have a grey floor rec. that also comes in a 2x2 mosaic? chrisk: I will probably paint the walls a color, something in the taupe range. My sister keeps reminding me about the tile: "tile is forever, but paint you can change." How large was your bathroom? Ohh, I hate having to make expensive decisions. Prickly: do you have a link to your remodel pix?...See MoreColor help can you ever have too much white?
Comments (12)HulaGal - I'm concerned that the relatively monochromatic scheme that I'm thinking about may need contrast (as in darker cabinets) - I probably didn't make that clear earlier. The floor tile will really depend on the granite. I originally wanted travertine or travertine look, but now I'm leaning toward the limestone look of the City View - cream and gold granite with the French limestone City View (the more gold color) or the grayish River White with the beige or gray color. I like the limestone look because it is less busy, and I can't find a granite that I like that doesn't have a fair amount of movement. The cream and gold would match the rest of my house, the gray would look better with the bedroom which is BM 451 Pine forest - I really don't want to repaint the bedroom. I saw a kitchen somewhere on GW with lovely traditional cabinets - cherry paired with this awesome dark reddish kind of modern looking tile floor - my description doesn't do it justice, the floor was exactly the color of the cherry and it made everything pop. That made me want to do a dark floor, but I keep telling myself NO NATURAL LIGHT - stay with light colors. Today, I'm leaning toward the creamy granite and cream cabinets, but wewill see what we can get at the distributor, no River Wite recently, I'd have to get it shipped in. Here is a link that might be useful: Pine Forest...See MoreNeed Help with Paint - too much white
Comments (3)Here is a photo of Lenox Tan in Aura formula, Ben Moore. It is in a north facing bedroom with morning light in the photo. I have posted another pic in "Favorite rooms" along with this one: http://photos.gardenweb.com/home/galleries/2008/11/benjamin_moore_lenox_tan_in_au.html It's a lovely color and looks good against the white trim without being too bold. Has a bit of a gold undertone but very subtle. Good Luck!...See MoreToo much white if I paint these cabinets white? (Pics)
Comments (21)My first thought was to go with a darker color -- black, chocolate brown or maybe green since the OP says some greens. I'm not a huge fan of oak, but these have more character and the only thing I really don't like about them is the hardware. Unfortunately, changing that and placing it properly will probably require painting. Going with white or a lighter color is more of a challenge because of the grain in the oak. Paint and grain seem to look better in deeper colors. I don't see the glazed look you are talking about looking good with your white. I also think it would replace one dated look with another and you might tire of it quickly. You probably want a brighter feel and thing dark cabinets will be darker. There have been a number of kitchens done with black or cocoa cabinets -- some in combination with white or cream uppers, that looks so bright and fresh. The contrast is so crisp and fresh that it creates a different look. Accent it with brushed stainless or something similar in your hardware, appliances if or when you replace them (or look into painting or getting panels for them if you prefer that over white), and possibly even in your small backsplash (it can be an inexpensive, designer look). I think it would feel a lot crisper and brighter, even though the cabinets might actually be the same or darker. When you do paint, I would think about taking down the valances over the sink and fridge. Take the shutters off and put a fabric or woven shade at the top of the opening. paint the area above the vent to match your cabinet or create a chalkboard there and put a fun saying on it -- but carry that color all the way to the ceiling. If you want the area above the fridge lower (a new fridge some day might be taller, but for now....) use a simpler piece of trim, no scallops. Consider a hanging rod for utensils in that little niche you have behind your cooktop. Update the accessories a bit and add a splash of function and/or color....See Morefreedomplace1
