A HUGE thank you to everyone who said to refinish the top! After many hours, a few swear words, and a cocktail or two, the table is finished! Here is a closeup of what the finish looked like before: It was crazed, dirty, and in a few places had some sort of goo actually melted into it. I was hoping that I could just clean it, brush on some lacquer thinner, and smooth it out. Not so. I had to completely strip the top, which removed all of the color, so I stained and finished it. It's not perfect, but it's so much better than it was! I think the wood actually looks better with the stain color IN it, rather than ON it. And with all of the leaves in: I've started working on the chairs, and I don't want to go into all of the ugly details, but I may end up with painted chairs, after all. We'll see how it all works out this weekend.

Thanks guys! I know! I was SO ANGRY when I found the ottoman missing. There is no doubt someone walked off with it. Everyone denied it, but someone took it. I think her stuff is getting harder to find, especially since she recently passed away. They told me at DWR that I couldnt match the color as knoll doesnt carry that fabric anymore. :( I decided I'll have to recover both someday...but it is SO expensive. They said knoll recommends buying the covers made for the bird chair and not having them custom made, as they will never fit quite right. I am not an expert, but I would suggest that the end tables don't match. Nice bed! Can we see more pictures of the room?

Since you have a lot of wood, I like the more open coffee table that you have mocked up. Since you have boys, I probably wouldn't spend money on a "nice" one until they're older and you know they're not going to ruin it. Target and Wayfair have some similar to your picture. Overstock does too. I like the square shape to offset the swivel chairs. I also like leather/faux leather chairs for your kitchen table. (unless you're afraid the boys will rip them).
