IMO, the shutters look dorky on the plate glass/contemporary and double windows. What's missing on the front is a set of broad and deep welcoming stairs up to the front porch and a walkway straight out to the street. Surely you can still obtain the brick to make that improvement. A bright navy blue on the doors might look nice. Pick it up in a bit of blue fleck in the roof shingles.

I see your point on the shutters look but for now we have to stick with them because once removed I feed the windows will looks small for the area and we're not in a position yet to replace with larger windows for now. Walkway/stairway I completely agree, this will be the next phase when we do the landscaping of the front and back. Navy is a great idea - we've seen a lot of navy trending with brass/gold recently in kitchen accents. I'll try those colours layered on this picture and share to see what it would look like.

I like Estate Gray, but make sure it is not a line with a wide range of color. Look at GAF Pewter Gray.

I like the color of beige that is on the gable. I would do all other areas that are white that color.

I don't think your windows are small and the ones in the back look good without shutters.

A true Victorian had tall narrow windows. Remove those shutters. Very bad for look of home. I would figure out a multi-color paint palette for the porch railings and posts to blend with your brick but bring Victorian colors. Think Painted Ladies of San Francisco. But first, power wash all the green mold and black mold off cement elements and anything else that needs a hood cleaning.

Larger windows aren't a solution here, now or down the road. Your modern-day railings and trim don't have the detail to pull off a true painted lady look, and I think that would just further muddle things. The "built-in" beige trim brick could be stained/whitewashed with a product from Romabio and allow you to move all the trim to the same white as your windows. That would be a much cleaner look to help un-muddle your home. A big tear-out and cleanup of the back yard structures, underpinnings, steps, etc., with a subsequent upgrade to the finishes there, will make for a very nice family gathering/entertaining spot.

The shutters look wrong. The house does not have “true Victorian” features like long tall windows, but removing the shutters will clean up the whole look. (Don’t worry about the size of the windows. That isn’t a necessary change, and ridiculously expensive.)
Everything that is beige getting painted white will also make the house look better. Then consider what should be painted (such as the garage and front doors) a color. Can we see the neighbors’ houses you like? I assume they are a similar style. Your house is great and like many of ours, needs some love and attention. If you can get a supply of matching bricks, that will be an option for the walkway and steps.

First off - it's a lovely house! Is it an actual vintage Victorian or Victorian inspired. It would seem to me to be an actual period Victorian house based on what I can see of the brickwork. In which case I would suggest looking at other houses of the same time period to see what colors they have used. If you can't find anything authentic that hasn't been modified over the years I would consult your local libraries to find photos of houses in your area from that time period. You could even consult newpapers that might have original photos of your house. The photos would be in black and white of course but you could determine the contrast between colors at least. Good luck and, once again, it's a beautiful house.

There is a large camp of no shutter people on Houzz. If they don't function or are not as large as they should be to function - get rid of them.

I sometimes agree, and sometimes feel like the shutters add color and interest and are there purely for decorative reason, and this is perfectly okay.

Your description of Victorian Inspired is also fine. It is not a Gothic (Think Haunted House) or Queen Anne Victorian, but it has the general shape and feel of a Victorian home, which is why you used the word "inspired."

Not all Victorians are the quintessential Victorian.

If all you want to do is change the color of the shutters, door and garage door and you found something that you think is beautiful a few blocks away, I would go knock on their door and ask what colors they used. My experience is that people are truly flattered when you knock on their door and ask something about their color choices or landscape choices. I have ended up in long conversations and even been given home and garden tours by doing this. I have gotten plant cuttings and been given samples of paint when the label was unreadable. I have never been turned away or scolded for admiring someone's home.
