Comments (8)Each region of the country has it's own look. I'm not sure if would be considered appropriate for you area. Personally, I would update the white and go with a light to medium shade of tan/taupe or even a sage/olive if it would work with the brick. I'm partial to black shutters and a black door. I can't tell if the dark colored brick is a black or a brown so the above mentioned choice might be a better choice if it is a dark brown. I would absolutely get rid of the blue because that makes the house look more dated....See MoreRoof / Garage Door / Shutters
Comments (5)I'd start with a dark valued roof, using an "architectural" grade shingle (has greater thickness and surface depth than a standard shingle). Thereafter, I'd unify and match the door and window trim colors. I'd also consider repainting all of the siding so that the overall house appearance is unified and harmonous, rather than the changeout of just a few items such as shutters and garage door. A color scheme I like with warm brick is a grey-green siding with muted red window frames and door frames. Front door could match or be a harmonious accent color, ie, yellow, sienna, etc. Garage door replacement could have a strip of rectangular windows at the top panel of the door, or simply be a solid door. Garage doors are so large that they tend to visually dominate the house elevation where they are located, so the best bet is to paint them a dark valued hue that recedes and does not call attention to itself. In the color scheme suggested above, it could be a neutral grey or dark green. Using a computer-based color selector, suggested above, is a good idea. Good luck!...See MoreExterior colors help wanted - shutters/garage door/balcony french door
Comments (5)Hi Cindy, the brick is "Old Orleans" by Cherokee brick. Its a great looking brick with lots of character. The mortar was rubbed over the brick to achieve the aged look. I put the same post in the home decorating forum with a couple more up close pictures if you care to see any more of this brick....See MoreColor ideas for shutters and garage doors?
Comments (11)@Design Girl you're probably right. I HATE the siding color :( unfortunately, I don't think it's in the cards to change it as we're really just hoping to be here short term for a flip. But, the shutters were already painted Iron Ore today. The garage doors comes tomorrow, and boyfriend wants to just paint them the same as the shutters... so iron ore... Which I might just go with now, even though it's dark. He's pretty set on the red door though... I'm not really a fan personally. I hate red. I wanted this color for the door. Can't always get what you want, I think that's how the song goes? I hear ya about the iron ore being dark. I do like it on the shutters, not sure how I'll feel about the garage door being so dark though. I guess we'll see. Can't be any worse than it was before... such awful colors....See MoreD S
