Have any of you purchased roses from QVC...if so, were you happy
Comments (3)I've done it. The bareroot roses came quite dry, and I think I was only able to revive two of the six they sent. Of the two I revived, one was mislabeled -- the one marked "Marie Osmond" was really Purple Heart. I still don't know if there actually is any rose named "Marie Osmond." The other one I got was the Emerald rose, which is Cottage Farms in-house name for Mint Julep. That one was true to variety, and I'm glad I have it, and was able to revive one of the two they sent. The small potted roses they sent were nice plants, however, and mine were not mislabeled. All of the ones I got from QVC were actually Cottage Farms roses, which can be usually obtained less expensively on the Cottage Farms site, except they don't sell roses in "collections." Here is a link that might be useful: Cottage Farms website...See MoreDo you use self seeders and are you happy with them?
Comments (26)I found a new gardening book at the library that looked promising. It was titled 'Plantiful'. It turned out to be a different book than I expected and it fits right in with this topic. This author decided when she started a new garden that she didn't want to wait for what she considered the usual amount of time for a landscape to fill in, 12 years according to her. She wanted a garden fast. So she went with a lot of self seeders and spreaders. I was surprised at the plants that she was recommending. Especially since she left out any warnings about how much they could get away from you and become a problem. She did identify any plants that were on the invasive list, which there were quite a few of, but there were plenty of things on her list that were not considered invasive that I would never have in my garden. Plume Poppy? Mint? Stipa tennuisima, Creeping Jenny, Oxeye daisy. Teasel? I don't know much about that one, but it looked lethal. [g] Mexican Evening Primrose, Perilla and Sweet Woodruff. Chamomile. Maybe some of these could be used in pots, but I wouldn't want them in the ground. I can't imagine a garden using all these plants. I suppose it is a different style of gardening, but I think you must really love how it all works out because I can't imagine ever getting them all out once they'd been growing for a few years....See MoreBest mid-range appliances - what are you happy with?
Comments (6)Oh! Thanks suseyb- I thought it was just MY Samsung fridge handles that attract dirt. My stuff is all mid-range- We just got an Electrolux OTR microwave and dishwasher. The microwave is great, cooks very evenly and is very functional. the dishwasher is soooo quite you cannot even tell it is on, even when putting your ear right next to it. Wish it cleaned as well as it shuts up. It does an adequate job, especially on the energy saver mode, but I do still occasionally find dishes that didn't get clean, if they have something dried on, especially on the top rack. Still, it is better than my last DW which was a Fridgidaire. It died exactly 2 years after we got it....See MoreHappy Thanksgiving! Post your food and table photos if you have them
Comments (20)Mimi's Brussel Sprouts Ingredients Brussel Sprouts, quartered (I used about 2 lbs) 1/2 cup craisins Cooked bacon lardons or thick cut bacon- depend on how much bacon you want! Olive oil to toss Salt + pepper to taste (For dressing) 1/4 cup good maple syrup 2 tbsp. white miso paste 2 tbsp. dijon mustard 2-3 tbsp apple cider vinegar 2 tbsp. chopped picked ginger salt to taste, if needed. *************** Pre-heat oven to 425 Prepare the brussel sprouts by tossing with olive oil to coat, then sprinkle salt and pepper. Toss again. Spread evenly on a baking sheet. Do not crowd the pan. Place in oven and roast for 15-20 minutes, until you see browning and caramelization. While the brussel sprouts roast, make the dressing by combining all ingredients together, whisking (or shaking in a jar) to make an emulsion. Check salt and acid level. You might want to add some salt, or more vinegar to get the sweet/tangy balance that you like. When brussel sprouts are browned to your liking, place them in a large bowl. Add dressing and toss to coat. Add bacon and craisins. Toss to combine. Serve right away....See Moreceilsan32
