The supply is typically stubbed out into the space below the vanity, and on/off valves are placed there. Just like a "normal" installation. Copper is then continued back up into the stud bay to where the wall faucet will be located. If you ever retrofit, turn off the water, remove the wall faucet, unscrew the nipples, cut the copper under the sink, install new nipples, then connect the new faucet's supply lines to the nipples. Clear as mud? The biggest pain will be repairing the backsplash or wall where the wall faucet came through the wall. If tiled, save a couple of tiles as replacements. If wood, patch and repaint. If stained wood or stone, it'd probably be easiest to just install a new backsplash or do a decorative applique over the holes. Mongo

I put a handblown glass vessel sink in my new bath and after about 9 mo or so it cracked. No one would accept responsibility for it and I wasn't going to pay for another, just to have it crack again. (artist said it was installed too tightly, plumber said it couldn't have been any looser or it would have leaked...yada yada.) Since I'd designed everything in that bath to go with the sink, including the wall mounted faucets, and the original sink was quite shallow and not too large, I had a HECK of a time finding a replacement. But I finally found this one and I love it. I love it more than the original sink because it doesn't show water spots like the glass did. I like that it's only 3.5" deep and can also be installed semi recessed if you need it lower. It's 16.9" in diameter. Here is the original, so you can see placement. I don't have a photo of the new one in place but will post a retailer pic. Don't know if it might work for you. My counter is deeper than this one, but I don't remember the depth - not too deep. We actually have a wall hung sink now in our rental. We have adapted to not having counter space and I am thinking about having tiled niches put in above the sinks as well as recessed medicine cabinets. It's definitely not ideal. But this bathroom will be 6 1/2 by 8 1/2 feet (and that's after annexing a closet) with two doors (long story) and a window. So ideal isn't happening. Lol. But, the wall mount sink we have right now is substantially bigger, at least from front to back. So that part has me worried. I just don't know in what ways that might be problematic for a master bath. . . . Thank you for the feedback!

I started out wanting minimal holes on my island and thought I wanted a touchless faucet. Then another GWer explained the function of the Kohler Karbon and I was sold though it was $$$ out of my budget. While I cooked in my temp kitchen during the many months of my remodel, I had the revelation that the sink and faucet were what I used most in my kitchen. This led to me making major changes and budget alterations to accommodate. I decided to get what functioned best for me. My sink and faucet are the best decisions I made in my kitchen and these decisions evolved with research. I know it's beyond your budget, but you asked how others decided. There are so many technological changes with faucets that I'd advise to take your time, research them, and try to see and play in person. Choose one that suits your needs and style. The favorite function of mine is that I can position it where I want it then have both hands free under it. I wouldn't give a second thought to a soap dispenser. It's used all day long!
