My tomato list - what should I add?
Comments (11)thanks, everyone! I, too, wonder about soil and if it makes a difference. I would assume it does. in zone 9 in California I had very acidic soil and it was also very sandy soil. I had tons of trouble getting anything from Cherokee Purple, Big Rainbow and Black Krim there. The plants shot up fast and had tons of foliage, but didn't give me any fruit and then suddenly all were stricken with a disease and died very fast. I did have luck with Red Brandywine in California. Now, in Kentucky, everything did well last year except for cracking on many of my tomatoes and blossom end rot on many. We were in a drought, so it was tough to maintain a regular level of moisture. Luckily, I planted 30 tomato plants last year so I was still able to harvest enough for my family and friends and freeze 10 quarts of basic tomato sauce and about 20 quarts of blanched whole tomatoes. I think I will try canning this year for the first time. My mom is experienced at canning so I'll have her teach me. I wonder where I can find Kellogg's Breakfast in the Louisville/Frankfort area since it's too late to start with seeds. That one does interest me....See MoreShould I add small cabinets over my upper cabinets?
Comments (1)If you go with a 42" cabinet, you'll be able to use the entire vertical space to adjust shelves as you like. If you keep it as 2 smaller spaces the vertical adjustment will be limited. I'm running into that problem with the 15" high horizontal cabinets I have in our laundry room. I end up wasting a lot of vertical space above the items I am storing because there isn't quite enough space to add a shelf. And you'll lose space with the thickness of the top of the lower cabinet and the thickness of the lower cabinet. I like making our upper cabinet storage as efficient as possible by adjusting the shelves to just the right heights. I would find an unnecessary barrier 2/3 of the way up a nuisance. You'll have to weigh the need for storage vs. the extra expense....See MoreShould I get a wood 'valance' over my sink?
Comments (13)One idea I'd like to throw out there if you're trying to add visual interest. We are adding a curved valance, just because I think it looks more finished with the crown molding that is in our kitchen. We also have light fixtures in the room- no cans. In order to "disguise" the 2 fixtures over the sink (so it doesn't look like an excess of fixtures in the room) yet not block the light, we are just using wood to "frame" the valance and placing decorative glass inside this frame. If you have ever visited a glass shop- the kind that stained glass artisans visit, and the bigger the store the better the choices-you will be blown away by the beautiful options. You do not need to do a stained glass mosaic for this idea, you can just put in a large single piece of your choice. I was just there today and I have yet to make a final decision. It's a simple way to do something a bit unique....See MoreHello! Should I add anything else to this wall? I love gold (sunburst)
Comments (91)Ok no worries! I usually use swatchpop and they just give you any ideas that you suggest. So here goes. I’m changing it up for summer. More color. I saw this on property brothers and I love it. Some of the pillows are from Target, especially the one I needed to pull this together. But unfortunately the color block is sold out! Help. I’m stuck for pillows! Here’s the idea and here’s what I got. I planned on using orange lamps because I don’t have the curtains. And can’t hang any in my living room anyway. Thanks for your help your awesome! The pink pillow is one I love that matches my flower arrangement. So if I get pink pillow, orange lamps, what do you think of this other pillow? Orange or blue? Hold on won’t let me post more pics.......See MoreSammie J
