I don't have that particular one but I too went with danze and was very impressed with the weight and feel we have it roughed in the shower is not tiled yet but I just picked up the trims the pretty part of it all. It is really nice and very happy with it. I have the sierrus collection in chrome. I had heard the scare stories too but the shop I chose to do business with is very reasonable and said they only work with good companies the other store that steared me clear only liked the high ticket stuff and they had high prices.

It does vary from brand to brand. We just installed a Hansgrohe valve and trim which controls volume, temperature and diverter on one control. You said you're using Newport Brass, and while I looked at some of their faucets, I'm not familiar with their shower controls. Quickly glancing at their web site, I see only one thermostatic valve, so if that's all they have, you're locked into whatever that valve and their trims for it require. Is there any particular reason you're set on Newport Brass? Depending on your finish and style, you may find you can use another brand for your shower controls and have it blend well with your Newport Brass sink faucet and/or showerhead, while giving you more options for the control than Newport Brass offers. -- Eric

A thermostatic valve will automatically adjust the mix of hot and cold water to maintain the water temperature you have selected. If a nearby toilet is flushed, the flow of water shouldn't change noticably as the valve simply adjusts the mix of hot and cold to maintain the desired temperature and flow rate. A pressure balanced valve works differently. It adjusts to maintain equal pressure on both the cold and the hot sides. If the cold water pressure suddenly drops because someone flushes a nearby toilet, the pressure balance valve will automatically reduce the hot water flow to match the cold water flow and thereby prevent a dramatic increase in the temperature of water flowing from the showerhead. When this happens, you may experience a sudden drop in the flow rate until the cold water pressure again rises. A thermostatic valve is able to increase OR decrease the flow of hot and cold water passing through the valve. In doing so, it maintains temperature and flow rate. A pressure balanced valve is only able to reduce the flow of water on one side or the other if the pressure on the opposite side suddenly decreases. In doing so, it will decrease the flow of water passing through the valve.

Every store used to have them until companies were forced to cut payroll in order to compete for customers through priceing alone. Aside to allminating great help for diyers, opertunity was taken away for retired people wanting part time work. I wager some of those answering questions on this forum would love to work a few hours helping people face to face,I would. It totaly escape's me why we pay SSI to folks and have them sit home distancing themselves from mainstream society but refuse to subsidize part time work. Would you pay Granny to show you how to prepare fresh veggies from the farmer's market? It's fast and easy asking on the net but believe me when I say you would be ten times better off paying gramps for showing you how to cut an edge with a 4" brush or refinish a table. I have attempted working out somthing where I furnish technical expertise,transportation and tools for on the job training young men unable to find work and can't afford school. What I've found is bureaucracy where noone is interested in such. It boil's down to lawyers and liability unless I pay more for insurance than both us togeather would earn.
