rhapsody in blue and wild blue yonder
Comments (3)I garden in BC too, but in a much colder area than you. I have both 'Rhapsody in Blue' and 'Wild Blue Yonder'. I like both ok, but I'm not crazy about RIB's overly large sprays that must be disbudded to have a clean look to the flower spray. WBY is a very nice rose which is both a strong grower and hardy. It is one of the few that have not been pruned to within inches of the ground this year. A favourite though is 'Ebb Tide,' ET produces large sprays of fragrant blooms. I have never been bothered with BS on any of these roses, but I do spray from time to time, especially early in the season when the rains are persistent. Not so much later in summer. I hope this helps! Rhapsody in Blue Wild Blue Yonder - not a great photo but the best I could find right now. Ebb Tide...See MoreFred, and anyone else who knows AV sizes. (S)
Comments (10)LOL Barbara..No actually I don't..Please let me explain. I know the formula hasn't changed, but this whole 1/3rd thing is baffling and new to me. Let's say an AV is 12" across. That would mean it goes in a 4" pot, right? Right. Which is the size most of my standard AV's are in. This is the problem. When I remove an Av from its 4" pot, the roots are so rootbound, when watered it runs right through..Do you understand what I mean? Going up to a 5", if there's such a thing, (according to correct potting procedure) would be too large, right? BTW, the plastic pots AV's are in, (older AV's (4-6+ yrs) are in pots they were purchased in.) have 4" rims but taper down, therefore, the rim is 4" but right below rim to bottom would probably be 3". You know how pots are shaped??? One other thing. With most plants, roots need room to grow. If a plant is extremely rootbound, chances of growth halts. Wouldn't that apply to 'Large' AV's, too? In other words, I'll use Tiger as an example. If Tiger is totally rootbound, would 'she' halt growing if her roots don't have room to grow? The same applies to fertilizer? Comments (14)Thanks! Wow! Krossa Regal seems quite interesting in form. How blue is the color??? I measured the area last night (after moving some smaller plants and yanking out all the violets that had taken over). It's basically 36"width x 36"depth, with a least a foot of wiggle room on the width angle, as it would be fine if some of the plant grows behind the pine tree that centers this shaded bed. In May, I bought "Love Pat" at the Sisters' Plant Sale (an annual plant yard sale at someone's home in eastern Mass.) not really knowing what it is. I liked the color and the form (and the price) so I got it. Now I know it will get a lot bigger than the space I planted it in! Thanks for all this information and all these suggestions!! Comments (16)Not too many names yet...they were really waiting to find out boy or girl to start the search. I think there are 3 that have kinda been 'okayed' by both....Kason Michael, Jackson (Jack) Edward, and Hayden Michael. But it is way early...so I am SURE it will change. Sept 7 is the due date...but all this time I have thought it was Sept 4, so that is what I am going by! LOL Not sure if I will be sewing the nursery or not. Kalie is looking to see what she likes, and we will go from there. But you can BET that I will be doing ALOT of additional sewing once she gets it figured out. =) Linda...you KNOW that "C" word (Iowa State Cyclones) is a bad word in their house! We hit some 2nd hand stores yesterday and I found 2 little IA Hawkeye (Iowa & IA St are BIG rivals!) outfits! I told Kalie I was going to pick up a Cy outfit just for fun...but didn't....See MoreAmy k
