kitchen facelift

Hi! Just repainted kitchen cabinets in “so chic” from Dunn Edwards. It’s a very very light gray (was hoping they’d come out darker but oh well).
We can’t change out the counter so wondering 2 things:

backsplash. I attached photos. Want clean and classic so going for subway but not sure on color
color on walls. We’re having whole downstairs painted same color. I got Behr Swiss coffee but if feels way too white. Thoughts? I have white trim throughout.

You already have a backsplash - that 4" above the counter.

Either remove that, or leave the wall above it untiled.

Update by:
1) adding hardware
2) undercounter lighting and
3) changing the outlets.

The only thing dated about your cabinets, is that the lowers are all doors, and not the more preferred convenient drawers. You have all doors on the lowers. Painting is not going to change that. Wood cabinets are very much in style. Just thumb through the most recent kitchens on this forum, and you’ll see many, many wood cabinets…especially maple, like yours are. Change the backsplash, sure. And, also update the cabinet hardware…perhaps change out the barely noticable knobs, with some more dramatic pulls. Otherwise, save up until you can afford to retrofit fhe lower cabinets with drawers.

I agree with the above. Put the quartz on hold until you have a cohesive plan. You're going to do all this work and spend a load of cash, do it right so you are completely happy at the end. Don't do it hodge podge/piece meal. I'd do a either a light charcoal floor or creamy limestone look. If you are redoing the floor, you might as well do what herbflavor suggests and move those cabs to create an island that will fix the wide aisle problem again, might not be a prob for you, but some don't like it (altho, I happen to really like the shape and function of your peninsula set up you have now). If you do an island, you could carry the wood floor into the kitchen and then paint the island to break up all the wood. Waterfall counters are difficult to do properly and seem to be on the way out trend-wise. Do you have a designer helping with your project?

I bought a house a couple years ago that has an older kitchen that isn't to my taste, but when you move, there are so many things to do, even in a well cared for house. I made a list of everything I wanted to do/change and then prioritized everything. The kitchen ended up at the bottom of the list because it's the most expensive project, and what I have is functional, even though I don't love it. Your kitchen does not have a bad layout and the appliances don't look too old. Tile countertops are less than ideal, but it would be a mistake to put new counters on old cabinets. I think you'll be able to function with it just fine for a couple years. Work on other things and save your money for your dream kitchen if you're going to be living there long enough to make that worthwhile. Living with it will help you figure out what you like and don't like so you make good decisions for the remodel.

Design Fan jackowskib cat_ky Flo Mangan I have carpet in living room, but was considering replacing that with the vinyl we install in kitchen. So the foyer and dining room would be birch and the other floors would be same- manila oak coretec is what I like. I ordered a box to get and idea of how it would look, it is similar in tone to the birch, but not shiny and planks are wider-7" birch planks are shiny and 3 3/4(? something like that). Her is manila oak with cherry cabinets in another persons home. I think it looks nice and not too matchy....thoughts? And second picture is visualization of my kitchen. With continuing the MO through other 2 rooms do you think it will be more flowing? I am thinking the dining room and foyer have rugs that hide most of the wood and dining room is not in direct site line of entry into house, only foyer and that area is mostly covered by a runner? Thoughts on that theory? My kitchen with Manila Oak Transition from foyer Transition from kitchen to family room if we extend MO to other rooms! Please over look clutter!!! And if I could talk better 1/2 into laying it over the birch, it would all match! Which I do agree is the right choice, but it doesn't look like I can convert better 1/2- ugh!

And here’s our LR that will take same color. BTR replacing floors in January with same flooring we have in living room

Not a pro. The only tile that looks right to me is the dark gray/ black. the others are looking too cool against your counters and cabs, which look warmer to me. I think your counters are great.
not sure about paint so I won't comment on that.

Agreed with anj_p if those are the choices I vote the dark as well
Also I LOVE LOVE LOVEEE that living room flooring!

White subway in first cluster you show. But is it avail in the slightly bigger subway size? Altho the smaller format is nice in a way too....Floor change will be major . Leave room for some hardware . the white subway is a nice classic look and works whether the floor imparts warmth or cool as it’s a darker material but not cold by any means. So presume you want to get on w tiling now. Pick the white and maybe a bit of contrast w grout.., slight only.

You already have a backsplash, that is what the 4" or so vertical piece is. Remove that for your tile or leave that and paint. Don't leave it and then tile.
