Late October Rebloomers

The past couple of days it's been warmer, and my reblooming daylilies have been able to open better.

The Tribble with Blue started reblooming this week. Here's how it looked today, following yesterday's high of 85 and overnight low of 49. The eye is more purple than blue in these temps and seems to be trying to pattern.

Grape Twizzler started reblooming earlier this week.

Kiss of Paradise is finding opening in lower night temps challenging. This is the best opening so far, following an overnight low of 64.

Bite of the Apple - This is the second time this new one has rebloomed.

Ice Cream Emperor is still hanging in there. In fact it put up yet another rebloom scape this week. We've only had light, patchy frost so fan, and I don't see any in the forecast for the next two weeks, so maybe that last scape will get in a November bloom or two.

Memphis was able to open blooms the past few days.

Rainbow Maker is still blooming too!

That's pretty amazing that you are still having rebloom. Ice Cream Emperor has such wonderful form, I think it's my favorite of this group........... We are due a freeze very soon, and it's gotten chilly enough to do in my Periwinkles............... It's almost vacation time for this gardener and with our little mini drought and my poor arthritic bones aching from dragging a hose around to water, I'm looking forward to it..............Maryl

Maryl - It's quite unusual to have this many blooming in late October. I have two with scapes that just now emerged. I haven't had any November blooms for several years.

I hope my Forty Days starts reblooming. Of course I don't expect it this year. This was the 1st year it has really done well, blooming and multiplying, 3rd year I have had it. Seems like i have had it longer, but i looked i up. S. Night Vision is lovely! Beautiful mums.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments on the near white seedling. I look forward to seeing how that one does next year. Kate - The Cowgirl Spurs seedling does look promising. With our weather conditions this year, it doesn't have much of a plant under it. We'll see how it does in future years. I have around 10 seedlings from the White Tooth X Skater cross. While this one does have the largest bloom and the widest edge, it's not one of my top favorites in the group. It's hard to evaluate the seedlings this year or make selections because the lack of rain caused lower bud counts and branching. Nancy - I agree that the Last Chance for Romance flowers were lined up like can-can dancers. Wheel of Time does have a lot of colors in it. Julia - Last Chance for Romance just started blooming last week. It has 15 scapes and lots of buds, so it should be blooming for most of August. Kay - Thanks for the comments on the seedlings! Maryl - Thanks for your comments. I thought the color on Zuzu's Treasure was especially good for this time of year. Lightning Round does have a pretty edge. Debra

Some rebloom and some late bloomers

Doesn't matter at all if we've seen them. Delinquent Doll. and Mango Crush are pretty pinks with nice edges. Nice bright colors with Raggedy Man, I like I'm Glad Cows Don't Fly the colors are really nice. Mantis - We did have 5 inches of rain in early August, but the raised beds and the ground is dusty dry right now. The Blazing Saddles kid, unfortunately, was not a weather warrior. It had only a few scapes from a large clump, and they were very short. Blazing Saddles did scape on almost every fan and the scapes, although not the usual 36 inches registered 30 plus inches. Kate - Sensational Heart was a winner all season. Last week when temps were in the mid-80s the blooms stayed looking good all day. My husband is in rehab now. He had a very serious UTI and a bad fall. He's getting better every day and doing well with physical therapy. Thanks for your comments. Nancy - I do love Sensational Heart! I’m with Maryl, pretty amazing for sure. Had a freeze here last night. I checked the gardens today, Indian Giver tried to bloom today, it was a pathetic attempt, I thought it was done two weeks ago. Those are all lovely late season blooms! Any seedlings sending up scapes now?

Sherry - I have a bicolor red seedling that has a scape coming. It's anybody's guess whether it will be able to bloom in November.

Like you, Debra, I have several blooming. That very warm summer like mini season we just experienced just confused them!! Your blooms all look good for this time of year. Grape Twizzler is very pretty and Memphis has been the bomb!! Elvis would be proud!!!

Kate - I'm laughing at your Elvis comment. I would imagine with all the hurricane rain you've had, that you would have even more reblooming than me.

I think your bi-color red seedling is my favorite of these extra-extra late bloomers. I assume the picture is from last year? That would be a wonderful daylily, to be a bicolor AND a very late. Memphis always looks great.

Celeste - The bicolor seedling is an early bloomer. This is just rebloom happening. It multiplies like crazy, but only has a bud count of 11-12. It also tends to lose its color when temps are high. It's the least likely of my red seedlings to be registered.
