Thanks very much for your input egbar, however, I must clarify; I included the picture of my family room because I want to a develop a color scheme for the LIVING ROOM that flows from the family room. I would like THE LIVING ROOM to be different from the family room but for it all to work together. The rooms are on either side of the house, separated by the kitchen. (I will use your suggestion of colors for the FR couch pillows. I have yet to do that and that will brighten family room space). Your advise about staying away from printed fabric is very useful. Todays prints seem a little too bold for me. Perhaps if I am able to find a texture fabric that could work for my accent chairs and club chair. For anyone else who would like to comment, I would like to use some color in the family room, to keep it interesting. It is a light and airy room with tall ceilings. It is a long room, each end opens to windows that look out onto the garden. ( one end is the dining room---another project!) Ideally the living room couch will be one color with coordinating fabrics on the club and wood frame chairs. If I am brave enough I might consider a cream color couch, but would be concerned if my cat or guest got something on it. The room does not get used much, but to be safe would prefer a couch with color that is not too strong. Thanks again everyone for any input you can provide.

I would not do asectional since you will only have one place to put it a sofa nad 2 chairs are a much better choice for seating and a chaise is a useless piece when entertaining because no one wants to sit there. Get an ottoman it act as an extra seat in a pinch . You might even be able to do 2 sofas and 2 smaller scaled chairs on either side of the sliding doors.

My only advice is nothing dark brown or black. If it were my house and I wanted a sectional, then I would look for something with clean, modern lines in a light tan color. I would not personally choose a sectional. They limit seating choices. I would prefer two matching sofas. As for the rest, go shopping and see what strikes your fancy. Your house is beautiful. With a light neutral sofa, you will be free to choose a variety of rugs. Stick with a nice wool, hand knotted rug in any color scheme or style that suits you and you should be happy. PS Wool rugs are more stain resistant and sturdy than synthetic ones, and hand knotting improves durability as well.

I love ghost chairs and I also love that hanging light . I don’t love gallery walls and IMO your space needs a large contemporary painting instead and choose to do the gallery wall in the hall instead.I actually like your space just the way it is I see no plus to adding brass at all. The only thing I would change is the art and it would be really cool to have a piece done to be huge ,
