As of a year ago when I worked there... :) Home Depot has a One Year Installation Warranty. If you call them, ask for either the specialty manager, or the kitchen expeditor. Explain to them that you are having numberous problems with products which were installed by them. They should put a call into a dispatch center, which will get a Field Services Manager to come out to your house and take a look at your issues. The FSM is employed by Home Depot, and they can't charge you for him coming out. His job is to look at the situation and determine if your issues are caused by their installation, or "natural" causes - i.e., settling. If he thinks that this was not caused by their install, he should still be able to get you in contact with the Silestone company to set up doing what they can do. There may be a charge for this - but if it goes through the H.D. where you bought it, it might be cheaper than trying to contact the company yourself, and if you get the manager on a good day, they might be willing to help you out with the price. As far as template vs. measuring - if it was a square/rectangular piece, I think measuring isn't totally out of the question. Even with templating, they don't necessarily scribe the countertop to your wall, but they might make the top deeper and recess it into your sheetrock so that there are no gaps. I think that I would have the FSM come out and look (if your H.D. is willing to work with you) As far as something that you can do yourself, to chip out the offending grout, and fill with silicone at this point, wouldn't be too difficult, at least to get one thing solved and out of your hair :) Hopefully, things haven't changed too much and that I've not led you astray - but I think it's worth following up!

While I do agree that the job should have been done correctly the first time, there is a possibility that the OP can still get resolution and maybe it's not time to throw in the towel just yet. A recent poster just went through some quality issues with a low-cost pre-fab company and they refunded her money, so resolution is not impossible. The OP posted on Saturday, so maybe the shop is closed for the weekend. And as adreak100 suggested, the OP's CC company or bank may be able to assist. " ... The second, you wouldn't have even had to make the call because the problem wouldn't exist." Maybe the OP was working in a very strict budget. It doesn't mean they shouldn't get a decent job where the gap can at least be covered by the backsplash of their choice. It's not really fair to say that everyone who doesn't pay the highest price deserves to get ripped off. Just MHO. " ... Had the tile been purchased at a tile store it could have been returned when the flaws were pointed out. It surely must have been seconds due to the irregularities, which a site like Overstock would not necessarily disclose. According to the OP the installer did the right thing: "He showed several sheets of the tile laid together on the floor before he installed them and asked if the spacing was okay. The spacing was a little uneven, but not a lot so I said it was okay. Now that it's installed, there are some areas with really wide grout lines that stand out a lot that weren't like what he showed me before he installed the tile." Had the installer provided the tile, it would be on him to make it good. However, the OP provided the tile, which was not purchased from a tile store but from an online discounter that also sells towels. Should he have told her she wouldn't be happy with the job because of the spacing? Perhaps, but that is telling a client that her tile is no good. It's one thing to adjust sheets of square tile and another to adjust sheets of lanterns. Had he suggested this, it would have necessitated an upcharge -- again the OP would not have been pleased at all. I can imagine that post. Bottom line: she bought the tile, didn't have a lucky purchase, and didn't know to try to return it. He pointed out irregularities -- he could not have seen every one in the boxes. She okayed it. He did the right thing and she could never have anticipated that after it was up some pieces would be so off. It's a shame because it's a focal point. But it's also a pretty backsplash and most people would not notice. I think it's practical to live with it. Few of us have totally perfect kitchens. But if it still bothers the OP before everything is completely finished, and it won't break the budget, rip it out and replace it.

Gen B, the fabricators knew we were changing ranges. Unfortunately, the delivery time for the range was much longer than expected. My question is... does it really matter though. Shouldn't the cut be straight either way. What if down the line, say in 5 years or so, you wished to change the range and they didn't make that particular model any longer? If they would have cut it straight it would've have solved a multitude of problems down the line. When the fabricator was here last tuesday he didn't want to say it, however, he alluded to the fact that the overhang on the old range provided a "safety net". I have a feeling that they chipped the side of the cut out when they were fabricating (because it's such a soft stone) and then decided they had to cut it like this to even it out. After he argued with me incessantly stating that "this is how they do it "standard procedure to cut the back smaller and the front larger", he then went on to say he followed the lines of the cabinet. I believe wholeheartedly that once he realized I wasn't buying the "this is how we always do it" story, he then decided to try a different angle (no pun intended) and blame the cabinet people. It was very upsetting. No apology, no accountability and no phone call back to discuss what they are willing to do.
