Do I need wall decor on both of these walls?
These are photos of my dining room. My question is regarding the two bare adjacent walls. I had "complementary" photos on them which I just took down and would love to put up the modern simple Louise Gray quilt (48" x 36")shown in the photo on the wall to the right. I chose that wall as it is the one you see when you enter the front door of my home - center hall colonial, dining room to the right, living room to the left. My question is: Do I need anything on the joining wall to the left? If so, I would not want a photo/picture - it would bother me to have a quilt on one wall and a picture on the other. So I was thinking of objects - you know, perhaps a few wall vases? But could I just leave it blank? THANKS!

I'd add a mirror to the short wall and art to the long wall.

Comments (14)Try a tall and narrow bookcase or etagere placed in front of the outlet to balance out the height of the window. The bookcase will cut the wall into smaller segments so it makes it easier to decorate it. Then you could place art on the wall between the bookcase and window and art on the other side of the bookcase. I would keep the vertical orientation going under the peak of the wall by hanging one vertical piece or two related pictures one above the other between the window and bookcase. You can probably do a large piece or a grouping on the other section. Should be easier to deal with when it's less continuous space. I'd also use full panel drapes hung a little above the top frame to accentuate the height. Are you saying the long part of your sectional would go in front of the window? Comments (8)While this response may seem to be off topic, better furniture placement will help your décor dilemma. Place the sofa…and coffee table, if there is one…so it faces the fireplace. Push the tv/stand back into the corner as far as it can go. Remove the bookshelf. Place the chair/ottoman to the left of the fireplace, with a small drink table beside it. Then hang one of the framed art pieces 6-8” above the chair on the fireplace wall and the second one slightly lower on the adjacent wall. 4 years agoA round mirror might work but keep it simple. I would pick one large piece vs smaller items/vases.

PRO4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoYou have some serious competition going on with the (hung too high) chandelier and the wall sconces. Consider a small chandelier. Maybe you can use yours as an island light in the kitchen?

PRO4 years agoThe first thing I would do is replace that light fixture. A pretty gold chandelier like the photo Beth posted would change the feeling of the room totally. Something transitional to go with your table and chairs. Then mirror between sconces to reflect chandelier and art on wall you see when entering home. Something like this. I would preserve the quilt and either drape over footboard of guest bed, or angle on bed or hang from period rod.
