Design Dilemma Remodeling Bathrooms

HELP!! I need some suggestions on a design that would suite a small bathroom. There are so many great options to choose from but I’m not exactly sure what design I should choose to make the bathroom look bigger. I was thinking about using a black off white design but I am looking for something more edgier and less expensive. My preferences are to add in a stand in shower and keep the vanity that I currently have. Here is what my bathroom looks like as well as a couple of options that I have chosen that I might think would work. But I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

A scaled floor plan will be the best way to get started with help. DIY or subbing out? Idea of budget? Can plumbing be altered or moved if necessary?

I work in apartments that have small bathrooms plus I bought a 1950s house that has a small bathroom. I love the first white bathroom with the smaller white vanity. Depending on the budget, you have options. First thing is clean out everything you do not use. Those boxy vanities are nice but in most of them they are just a box with a bottom shelf. Do you think you could downsize to an 18/19 inch? The clear glass shower stall is a plus. Illusion is part of this picture. I love a nice bathroom but realistically you don't spend a lot of time in there. Lots of factors go into updating bathrooms. I wish you the best and would love to see a before and after.

I had the exact same problem. I picked out the vanity I wanted but did not think about the fact that it wasn't made to sit flush against the wall. I spent a month looking for something else, but in the end we decided to go with something shorter and have it not be against the wall. But we were going from 72" to 60" which is probably not workable in your mom's situation. I did find a lot of vanities that did have flat sides and could work in a corner, if you are willing to have the countertop fabricated. They just need to not have any trim detail on the top or bottom like the one you picked out does. I would just look at the ones without the pre-made tops. Because the pre-made top will still leave you with a slight gap because of the countertop overhang. This is an example: Avanity Modero which is sold everywhere, not just at Lowe's. The cabinet we ended up buying is an Avanity Madison which won't work for you, but I assume it is of similar quality. We are pretty happy with it. The drawers and doors have soft close but I do feel like the glides in my Ikea kitchen drawers are better quality. It is very pretty and I wanted a stained wood so I am really happy with our choice. If I had been willing to go with a painted finish, I think we might have stuck with the 72" Modero.

I agree with Cpartist"s layout and like moving the closet over as suggested by D M so that bedroom 3 has easier access to the bathroom. Do you have room to have the toilet face the tub and add a linen cabinet next to the toilet? How wide is the tub toilet area?

Well it depends on the size of the transom. A traditional transom will not. if it is a larger and or operable transom possibly. A lot depends on your ceiling height as well as the outside elevation with that. If light is your goal you can do both if it works on the outside elevation. Also you can do a regular size window inside a shower. Or two smaller square windows.......the possibilities are endless but I try to not elimate existing windows where possible especially when it gives the opportunity for function and light. lower cabinets although tall ones.....i would go counter height with window above.

Sconces are so much better for lighting bathroom mirrors than overhead lights of any type. For a 96" wide vanity I would use four single sconces. Since you only have 8.5" from the right hand sink to the wall you need something skinny, but skinny sconces are popular now. I like the double one you chose. Maybe they have it in a single. I can't tell from the pictures, but it may be possible to move the sinks over a couple inches to gain more room on the right edge. Sometimes it's possible to do that without moving plumbing. If you have four sconces you will not need the overhead lighting. When on they will be much more than decorative. They will be very functional. 20" X 36" is a good size for mirrors, but consider medicine cabinets unless you have all the storage you need in your vanity.

IMO storage is a must in any bathroom . I love 12 x24 tile on both the floor and the shower wals is makes the space feel bigger and keeps grout lines to a min. I do agree a floor plan to scale will be a big help.I think wall hung vanities make the space feel bigger and I love Godmorgon from Ikea , I am not sure if you have the sapce for this type of storage but it is great in small spaces also Godmorgon

I am working with a budget of close to 4,500. I already had a contractor come take a look and he will charge me 3,000 and some change for labor but I would need to provide materials. I would like to keep the vanity if possible and spend more money elsewhere but I do get your point a smaller vanity would add more space to the area so I am open to buying another one and the storage is nice but I don’t believe that I would have room for that in my bathroom.

Should I use the same tile for the both the bathroom floor and wall or should I do contrast between the two?
