Palm Springs MangoDog Yard update July 2011
Comments (15)@mangodog thanks for the information, multi grafting is something I want to try eventually, i guess choosing the right early , mid and late season varieties that have the same growth , Id agree with tropicalgrower the valencia pride is like the godzilla of mango trees, the one i planted at my mothers house, is about 40-45 ft tall, and only about 10 years old. its easily visible on google earth lol but who knows how these cultivars will react sharing the same root stock....See MoreYard Update
Comments (13)Ethan- The kwai muk and two recent cherries, minnie royal and royal lee were the only trees in the pics that were not in the ground when it hit 18f. The tamarind did fine protected (with a single 40w light bulb in a spot light fixture at the base and the tree wrapped in a single layer of bed sheets). If I recall it shed most of its leaves and then flushed out when the temps warmed up. No branches split which was positive. This past winter the tamarind was allowed to go to 28f with no heat source and a single sheet thrown over to reduce any frost on the leaves and no branches were damaged. marcus...See MoreReplacing a porch floor. Best value
Comments (0)I need to replace my old 6' x 35' porch floor. The old flooring is 1x4 T&G fir painted gray, which lasted about 30 years. Most lumber yards around me now carry mahogany 1x4. It is about $1/foot. I have a few questions. Is mahogany a good choice? Do you paint it, or leave it natural? If you paint it, do you paint all surfaces including the underside? If you don't paint it, can it be stained or sealed to keep it's color? I'm not wild about using latex gray floor paint. It doesn't last very long. Thanks MikeC...See Moresome updates on my empty back yard, sauce business, etc.
Comments (6)Datils are a great pepper, from Fla. too. Try the sweet datil , it is not hot but is one of the best flavored peppers out there. Glad to here you will be having a local supply of peppers. Field grown peppers have always given me much higher yields then pots so if you can keep up with the weeds the sky is the limit. Good Luck Dave...See Morenicholsworth Z6 Indianapolis
