I would start by creating ideabooks with dining rooms you like as inspiration.

After new console/ mirror, maybe a plant in the corner, or maybe an 'arty' screen.

I can't help but notice that ceiling fan. please, if you have to change anything, let it be that.

The art is fine, although the buffet should be taller if it's sitting underneath it. Art should be hung 4-6" above a console or buffet.

That elephant pic is far to small for that big wall. think about getting it matted and framed in a larger frame and hang it on the appropriate wall.

That red buffet is nice. If you go this route, then do a more neutral type of rug.

w/the red buffet, your curtains, new lights, do a simple jute rug.

I'd also consider painting that stark white door. paint it the same color as your wall.

Although, this over dyed red/orange rug would look really nice in that room

yes, I see the diff. I do like the color though. With that dark table and otherwise void room, the persimmon color buffet would add some interest.

What's so special about the sliding glass door that you want to double its reflection? If it isn't interesting or beautiful, you don't need to repeat it with a mirror. Other elements, as suggested above, would do more for your room.

Celery I have an idea book but never thought to go back and check since I’ve been off this site for a hot minute. I can put things into prospective. Love the advise about console height and yes-ceiling fan must go!!! I have a chandelier from Restoration Hardware that I’ve been eyeballing but I should see if it’s on this site for something more affordable. Decoenthusiaste I’ve never thought about doubling the reflection. I was short sighted in thinkin just bringing in more light. Now I know that it’s not necessary.

Don't forget to paint that white door the same as the wall color. or something darker. (and if you really want an upgrade, paint out the oak trim and baseboards.

That I can do easily! I’ll do that one and the front door that ppl come in. That trim is throughout the house and it drives me crazy.

what if you moved the buffet console to the other wall? seems like where it's at it's blocking the walkway a bit? maybe move it and the chairs to the other side?

since this room is somewhat by itself, if you painted the trim in here, could that be done ok?

Try painting both doors first and see how it looks.

At the very least, paint the trim around the windows. you already have the white from the blind valance there, do the rest of the window trim (after you paint the doors!)

Why are visitors walking into a dining room?

Was this intended as the living room?

Is there no other location for dining?

Additionally, in entering in parallel to the wall that you wanted to mirror, no one would be able to look into the mirror unless they were coming in from the other room. I don't think we know the complete story here. Time for more pondering on this room IMO.
