Front door trim for odd sized brick opening

We replaced our front door and realized that the hole for the door is not centered across the brick opening. Standard 2" brick mould will not fit (either too small or too big since the left and right trim areas are not symmetrical). The previous door trim was just strips of wood made to custom fit. There's also space above the door, as if a taller sized door was meant to go there originally? We are DIYers but at a loss for how to make this look nice.

I'm worried that trim painted a contrasting color with asymmetrical sides would look goofy. I also worry that if we used wood painted to match the door color, it would look odd against the faux grain of the fiberglass door. A handyman suggested a craftsman style surround that sits in front of the brick but I'm uncertain whether or not that would look good with our style of house. Need ideas and advice please!
