Help a (Clueless) Guy Decorate his Small 1930s Living Room
Comments (81)unfortunately the room is too narrow to have the sofa facing the fireplace. I'm pretty much stuck with that being there. Great thoughts about the coffee table, I keep trying to love the trunk but its just not happening. Oh well it was only $20 so maybe its Scouts new toy box. Interesting point about the rug - admittedly I'm not too polished on the rules of design so I end up having to learn along the way. I think I'll try a bigger rug. Also I'm going to hold off on the TV. Maybe once I finish the kitchen reno and use the room more otherwise I'm fine with just going to the basement which I'm also decorating slowly but surely. Its becoming my favorite room in the house and has another massive fireplace which makes it so warm and cozy. I'll post some pics and get everyone kind help AFTER I vacuum the couch (yellow dog & brown microfiber - UGH!!).......See MoreHelp me decorate Dining/Living Room please

Comments (28)Not to be pendantic, but I think the floor plan may not be drawn correctly in some key areas. If you look at the plan with stoop at the bottom of the page, and living room left of foyer, I think the left wall of the living room should be same length as the right wall. That would make the kitchen (tall cabinets) closer to the front of the house, and possibly the overall kitchen larger as well. The eat-in part of kitchen, near the patio, may be larger than drawn, and the doorway into the family room is probably much wider than drawn. The fireplaced family room may be wider than drawn, as the window would not fit next to the fireplace, or maybe the fireplace is drawn too wide. The hallway looks more than 5-ft wide, which could be, but is not typical. If tv is a consideration, the left wall of the family room has a pass through, so the right wall would be the tv location. Similarly, in the living room, the right wall is a pony wall, so the left wall would be the tv location. The fan in the family room, and light fixture in living room, lead me to believe that the builder's intent was for the living room to be a dining room, and the family room to be the living room. I think they are basically the same size room, except the family room could perhaps borrow a bit of space from the hallway....See MoreEntryway with large niche, need some inspiration, please.
Comments (41)@Flo Mangan I am not decided on having a rug in the dining area. And it is more like 9.5ft by 11.5ft per my husband, will remeasure that area and the round table. Thank you again for taking your time with the drawing, really appreciate you. @nelliebean yes feet can come off, hubby and I talked about doing that when we placed it there just haven’t gotten to it. We are about 4 months in the house now, still settling in....See Morehappyleg
