Cordless Stick Blender (x-post from Cooking)
Comments (8)Thanks for the Braun suggestion, eam44. That's interesting, because I often cook in a kitchen where they have an older corded Braun, and that's the feeblest stick blender I've ever used, really almost useless. But it's at least ten years old. It took up a lot of room, keeping it charged Anglophilia, I guess they've changed, because one reason they're considering the cuisinart is that it just has a removable power cord for charging instead of a big charging base like, say, the Breville. Do you have a cordless KitchenAid, Mrs. Pete? I didn't know they made one. I have the regular corded KA older model and it's absolutely wonderful....See MoreFavorite cordless vacuum?
Comments (6)Had a Hoover Linx. Didn't realize how poor the filtration was until one day when I turned it on in a beam of sunlight and was shocked at what blew out of it. I emptied the cup and cleaned the filter on a weekly basis. It's now relegated to the garden shed. Bought a Riccar cordless for the house. Love it! Powerful, great filtration, massive bag, long battery life and quick recharge. Has a headlight that's perfect for early morning scattered litter cleanup. I have a Sebo canister for whole house vacuuming, but the Riccar is used on a daily basis in other parts of the house. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FH1c1N11lpE...See MoreRecommendation for a cordless stick vacuum
Comments (18)I bought the Dyson 11 in December. There are pros and cons. The pros are that it is amazing on dog fur. It fills up even when you think your rugs are generally clean. It is also great on small grit and things of that nature. I can see it being perfect for my beach cottage. Now the cons: If you formerly had a bag vacuum, than you may be bugged by how often you have to stop and empty the collection chamber. I have three dogs, so it is usually after a couple of rooms. Sometimes less, but more often than I would like. Second con: It really isn't very good about picking up more substantial items, like, a piece of dry dog food, or a small twig, or a whole leaf. My old vacuum was an Electrolux and it picked up everything without pause. The Dyson 11 is far less effective with that. Third con: Occasionally the filter will clog (the sensor display will tell you.) You have to remove it and wash it under the faucet and let it dry 24 hours. Of course this happens when you are only halfway through your cleaning. You can buy a spare, but they aren't cheap. All in all, the Dyson 11 is a great vacuum, but in my opinion, it has annoying limitations....See MoreBest cordless vacuum cleaner for LVP flooring?
Comments (13)ostrich, I have the Dyson V11. It was a gift from my daughter when we moved into our new home. It is truly the worse vacuum I've used. Let me explain. I've had Dysons in the past but their regular corded vacuums. I never liked them compared to my other corded vacuums which were Electrolux and Hoover canisters. We used the Dyson uprights in our office. I found them heavy, clumsy and difficult to change tools. Now I have the V11. It is very heavy for easy use. The moter, filter is up close to the handle. You have to keep the trigger held in when vacuuming which, in itself is not a problem except to hold the handle to clean the filter, empty the cup, change tools, your thumb keeps hitting the trigger. Not terrible but annoying. My biggest issues are The weight up by your hand due to the motor being up at the top of the pole. My arm hurts after 10 minutes of vacuuming. Because the weight is up top, the head swivels loosely and is difficult to control. It goes sideways, turns around just so annoying. I actually have to use my foot to keep it straight. Next big problem, the attachments are difficult to detach. Again, the weight is at the top by your hand. You are trying to push the button to separate the pole, the button is so stiff, you need your other hand to pull but the weight is on top so it falls. I take my foot to hold the head on the floor while I try to separate the poles. I can't describe what goes on, you would have to try it to see what I mean. Its just so difficult to use. It does not work at all, on throw rugs. I have rugs by each door to catch the sand (I live in Florida) from shoes, I've always vacuumed them with my Shark, no problem, not so with the Dyson. Even lowering the suction, the Dyson stalls as soon as it hits the rugs. I've written enough. I could go on for pages about how user unfriendly this vacuum is. Its just a really dumb design. It was a gift and I know my daughter felt she was giving me the best. It was quite expensive for a stick vacuum. So I will keep it, but will either get another Shark (which I loved) or look at the Bissel. Unfortunately, it seems Shark is now putting its motor on top of the handle also. Makes vacuuming difficult on your arm and hand. The motors are too heavy. But, at least it doesn't have the trigger in the handle. Jane...See Morewekick
