should we paint this door black?
Comments (20)This board is great! I've been on the kitchen board for a while now, and this is my first foray over here - thank you all so much for your suggestions! I think I do want to subdue the front door - that was a good way of putting it. And the door with the shiny brass knob is being replaced with a glass paned door with an ORB handle, which the other french doors have (not fully installed in the picture!) The trim will stay white. I like the idea of doing the door a shade or two darker than the wall. LOVE the idea of artwork with black frames, and painting the chest distressed black. Thank you for all of your ideas! I appreciate it....See MoreWould you paint this front door black? (pics)
Comments (11)The door is fiberglass so staining is an option, too. Although stained fiberglass doors always look to me like... stained fiberglass. :) Cream is interesting. I'd not thought of carrying something like the trim color to the door. I really need to take better pics, but our camera battery is dead and we apparently (oops) packed the charger. I had thought of green, though more of a muted sagey green. Had not thought of eggplant but that's interesting as well! The porch faces south, so it will only get indirect light. And it's about 11 feet back from the steps, so it never be well lit other than the electric lights (decorative one by the door, two recessed). The stone has hues of ruddy browns, oranges... but no real cream. It's more of a gray-beige (when I held a SW Macadamia swatch up, considering it as the main color, it all but disappeared)....See MoreOpinions Please: Should I paint this door black?
Comments (17)I love how immediately helpful everyone is! The door leads to the laundry/utility room. Immediately on the other side is the furnace. Boo. A nicer door could be an eventuality, but we were over budget on the project already, existing was a brown faux wood finish PLASTIC door. This door was on sale at Menards so we got it as a quick fix because that plastic door was just killing everything. The dark walls kind of closed the space in considerably, something we were both happy with because the room gets tons of traffic so much of the space is unusable as far as adding furniture and room opens to ginormous family room with double french doors so tons of light coming in. A lot of the room just looked like odd open space and now its much more cozy. Thought a black door sucking light wouldn't be terrible. I liked the way the black chair backs contrasted with the wainscotting, that's where I got the idea that the door might look nice in that same finish but I think I've been outvoted! I do like the fresh white with the linked fresh artwork... Would be a very different effect! And thanks for the mock up - how cool is that? So easy for me to visualize, I need to learn how to do that so I can try out my crazy ideas :) Although it still looks appealing to me after seeing it. Thanks again for all the input!...See MoreBlack, dark Gray or white interior doors?
Comments (5)White. It's the easiest to work around and will have the longest staying power. IMO interior doors shouldn't be a feature element of a home. Grey is on it's way out, and black works well in only certain styles of homes. You mention you have a lot of light, but what about in smaller spaces? Will black work well in the kids rooms or in bathrooms? You also should consider resale. If/when you sell most buyers will expect and want white doors. You'll need to be prepared to switch to that....See MoreJJ
