Green Giant Arborvitae spacing for possible hedgerow...advice???

Hi there!

I've posted on here before and everyone is so helpful! I was hoping for some advice...

I have a hedge of Green Giant Arborvitae planted outside my fence (on my property) that are about 11.5-12 ft on center, so although they're a good size, I can still see between them to my neighbor behind me (who is pretty close). I was thinking about planting some shrubs to close the gap in between...maybe something for wildlife like elderberry? I know hedgerows are planted very closely planted. Do you think there's enough room to plant in between or do you think I should just sit tight and let them fill in? Or will they ever? I'll attach a photo so you can see what I'm talking about. Would love your thoughts! Thanks!
